A dielectric substance is laminated on one surface of a piezoelectric substance, and an IDT and reflectors are disposed as electrodes at a boundary between the piezoelectric substance and the dielectric substance, and the thickness of the electrodes is determined so that the acoustic velocity of the Stoneley wave is decreased less than that of a slow transverse wave propagating through the dielectric substance and that of a slow transverse wave propagating through the piezoelectric substance, thereby forming a boundary acoustic wave device.

In this article, we will provide an overview of BAW filter technology by discussing comparison between BAW and SAW RF filter technologies, working principles of BAW resonator and filter, BAW resonator key performance parameters, comparison between free-standing bulk acoustic resonator (FBAR) and solidly mounted resonator (SMR) technologies, status of BAW resonator design and models, BAW filter manufacturing challenges, and future BAW technology improvement directions.

Bulk acoustic wave RF technology

The thin film resonator technology has been under development for over forty years in one form or another. Although the basic approach is derived from the desire to reach higher frequencies than those readily achieved by thinning bulk crystals, there have always been competing technologies or fundamental material or processing problems that have impeded the development. Finally, a point was reached in the wireless market wherein competing technologies appeared unable to meet the demands of modern wireless applications and thin film approaches began to receive some emphasis. This paper will survey the thin film resonator technology. Every effort will be made to provide an objective analysis of the technology in relation to applications and competing technologies, and point out obstacles and promises, as known, for further technology advancement to high frequencies.

Thin film resonator technology

A control information transmission and reception method based on a spatial-multiplexing gain, are provided. The control information may be transmitted by obtaining the spatial-multiplexing gain using an E-PDCCH region, and thus, a transmission efficiency of the control information may be improved. The common control information used for decoding the E-PDCCH may be transmitted via a PDCCH, and thus, a base station supporting both a general terminal and an enhanced terminal may effectively transmit the control information. Information associated with an indicator indicating whether the E-PDCCH is to be used during a subsequent resource allocation period may be transmitted, and thus, whether decoding with respect to the E-PDCCH is to be performed during the subsequent allocation period may be determined.

Method of transmitting and receiving control information based on spatial-multiplexing gain

A duplexer includes an antenna terminal, a first filter connected to the antenna terminal, and a second filter connected to the antenna terminal. At least one of the first filter and the second filter is a ladder type filter in which a parallel resonator and multiple series resonators are included, one or more first inductors are respectively connected in parallel with one or more series resonators out of the multiple series resonators, and one of the one or more first inductors is connected in parallel with one of the multiple series resonators that is arranged closest to the antenna terminal.

Duplexer and ladder type filter

A filter includes a parallel resonator having first comb electrodes provided on a piezoelectric substrate and a first dielectric film that covers the first comb electrodes, and a series resonator having second comb electrodes provided on the piezoelectric substrate and a second dielectric film covers the second comb electrodes and is made of a material identical to that of the first dielectric film. The first dielectric film has a different thickness from that of the second dielectric film.

Acoustic wave device, resonator and filter

An acoustic wave device includes a piezoelectric substrate, a first dielectric film formed on the piezoelectric substrate, and electrodes that are provided on the first dielectric film and excite an acoustic wave, the electrodes including electrode fingers. At least a part of the first dielectric film is cut out between adjacent electrode fingers among the electrode fingers.

Acoustic wave device and filter

A duplexer includes a common terminal, receiving filters, a transmitting filter, and a hybrid having four terminals (terminals 1 to 4 ). A first terminal (terminal 1 ), which is one of the four terminals of the hybrid is connected to the common terminal, the receiving filters are connected to a second terminal and a third terminal to which a signal is transmitted if it is input from the first terminal, and a transmitting filter is connected to a fourth terminal (terminal 4 ) of the hybrid. Thus, it is possible to improve the isolation of the duplexer, while avoiding an increase in the number of parts as well as greater complexity.

A surface acoustic wave resonator includes a piezoelectric substrate, and a SAW resonator having an interdigital transducer. The interdigital transducer satisfies 0.15L≦W≦0.45L where W is the total of widths of all electrode fingers that form the interdigital transducer, and L is a length of the said interdigital transducer in a direction of SAW propagation.
