Vitamin D decreases NFκB activity by increasing IκBα levels

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the effect of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D (1,25(OH)(2)D(3)) and its less calcaemic analog 1,24(OH) D(3) on the production of tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNFalpha) by peritoneal macrophages.

Vitamin D decreases NFiB activity by increasing IiBa levels

TL;DR: Since NFkappaB is a major transcription factor of inflammatory mediators, these findings suggest that the less-calcaemic analog of vitamin D, 1,24(OH)(2)D(3) D(2) may be effective as an anti-inflammatory therapeutic agent.
Journal ArticleDOI

Chickens fed with biomass of the red microalga Porphyridium sp. have reduced blood cholesterol level and modified fatty acid composition in egg yolk.

TL;DR: Results encourage the development of an improved chicken feed having dietary fibers and polyunsaturatedfatty acids and blood and egg cholesterol levels are encouraged.
Journal ArticleDOI

Marked increase in plasma high-density-lipoprotein cholesterol after prolonged fasting during Ramadan.

TL;DR: There was a striking nonpharmacologic improvement in plasma HDL-C and ratios of TC to HDL- C and LDL-C to HDL -C, which were most probably induced by eating one large evening meal a day.
Journal ArticleDOI

Estrogen increases 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D receptors expression and bioresponse in the rat duodenal mucosa

TL;DR: Findings suggest that estrogen up-regulates VDR expression in the duodenal mucosa and concurrently increases the responsiveness to endogenous 1,25(OH)2D2D, one of the major protective mechanisms of estrogen against osteoporosis.
