Coordination polymers are constructed from metal ions and bridging ligands, linking them into solid-state structures extending in one (1D), two (2D) or three dimensions (3D). Two- and three-dimensional coordination polymers with potential voids are often referred to as metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) or porous coordination polymers. Luminescence is an important property of coordination polymers, often playing a key role in their applications. Photophysical properties of the coordination polymers can be associated with intraligand, metal-centered, guest-centered, metal-to-ligand and ligand-to-metal electron transitions. In recent years, a rapid growth of publications devoted to luminescent or fluorescent coordination polymers can be observed. In this review the use of fluorescent ligands, namely, 4,4'-stilbenedicarboxylic acid, 1,3,4-oxadiazole, thiazole, 2,1,3-benzothiadiazole, terpyridine and carbazole derivatives, naphthalene diimides, 4,4',4''-nitrilotribenzoic acid, ruthenium(II) and iridium(III) complexes, boron-dipyrromethene (BODIPY) derivatives, porphyrins, for the construction of coordination polymers are surveyed. Applications of such coordination polymers based on their photophysical properties will be discussed. The review covers the literature published before April 2020.

Advanced Porous Adsorbents for Radionuclides Elimination

Abstract With the fast development of agriculture, industrialization and urbanization, large amounts of different (in)organic pollutants are inevitably discharged into the ecosystems. The efficient decontamination of the (in)organic contaminants is crucial to human health and ecosystem pollution remediation. Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) and metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) have attracted multidisciplinary research interests because of their outstanding physicochemical properties like high stability, large surface areas, high sorption capacity or catalytic activity. In this review, we summarized the recent works about the elimination/extraction of organic pollutants, heavy metal ions, and radionuclides by MOFs and COFs nanomaterials through the sorption-catalytic degradation for organic chemicals and sorption-catalytic reduction-precipitation-extraction for metals or radionuclides. The interactions between the (in)organic pollutants and COFs/MOFs nanomaterials at the molecular level were discussed from the density functional theory calculation and spectroscopy analysis. The sorption of organic chemicals was mainly dominated by electrostatic attraction, π-π interaction, surface complexation and H-bonding interaction, whereas the sorption of radionuclides and metal ions was mainly attributed to surface complexation, ion exchange, reduction and incorporation reactions. The porous structures, surface functional groups, and active sites were important for the sorption ability and selectivity. The doping or co-doping of metal/nonmetal, or the incorporation with other materials could change the visible light harvest and the generation/separation of electrons/holes (e − /h + ) pairs, thereby enhanced the photocatalytic activity. The challenges for the possible application of COFs/MOFs nanomaterials in the elimination of pollutants from water were described in the end.

Novel Bi2WO6/ZnSnO3 heterojunction for the ultrasonic-vibration-driven piezocatalytic degradation of RhB

In this work, the centrosymmetry of Bi 2 S 3 nanorods is broken due to the introduction of large quantities of S i defects in the crystal lattice, which then endows the Bi 2 S 3 nanorods with the ability to efficiently reduce Cr(VI) by piezocatalysis. Most importantly, the piezocatalytic reduction could be significantly boosted by applying an alternating magnetic field (AMF). The AMF coupled piezocatalysis is achieved by H 2 O 2 and·O 2 - . AMF is found to facilitate the separation of electrons and holes due to the magnetoresistance effect of Bi 2 S 3 nanorods, thus remarkably enhancing the piezocatalysis by largely increasing the generation of H 2 O 2 . This work paves a new way for inducing the piezoelectricity of centrosymmetric materials by introducing defects and improving their catalytic activity through AMF, which has a great application potential in energy and environment fields. • Bi 2 S 3 nanorods were endowed with piezocatalytic performance due to the symmetry breaking effect. • Cr(VI) is highly efficient reduced to Cr(III) of the piezocatalysis. • The piezocatalysis is greatly boosted by applying an alternating magnetic field. • H 2 O 2 and·O 2 - were found to be generated and reduce Cr(VI) while pieozcatalysis. 

Symmetry-Breaking Induced Piezocatalysis of Bi2S3 Nanorods and Boosted by Alternating Magnetic Field

In this work, a CdS/BiVO4 step-scheme (S-scheme) heterojunction with self-photothermally enhanced photocatalytic effect was synthesized and applied for efficient U(VI) photoextraction. Characterizations such as transient absorption spectroscopy and Tafel test together confirmed the formation of S-scheme heterojunctions, which allows CdS/BiVO4 to avoid photocorrosion while retaining the strong reducing capacity of CdS and the oxidizing capacity of BiVO4. Experimental results such as radical quenching experiments and electron spin resonance show that U(VI) is rapidly oxidized by photoholes/•OH to insoluble UO2(OH)2 after being reduced to U(IV) by photoelectrons/•O2−, which precisely avoids the depletion of electron sacrificial agents. The rapid recombination of electron-hole pairs triggered by the S-scheme heterojunction is found to release large amounts of heat and accelerate the photocatalysis. This work offers a new enhanced strategy for photocatalytic uranium extraction and presents a direction for the design and development of new photocatalysts.

Two Ni(II) coordination polymers, namely [Ni3(btb)4(nbta)2(H2O)4]
 n
 (1) and [Ni(btb)(Hbtc)(H2O)2]
 n
 (2) (H3nbta = 5-nitro-1,2,3-benzenetricarboxylic acid, H3btc = 1,2,4-benzenetricarboxylic acid), employing mixed-ligand systems, both containing the rigid N-donor ligand btb (4,4′-bis(1,2,4-triazolyl-1-yl)-biphenyl), have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Complex 1 shows a two-dimensional network with a binodal (3,4)-connected 3,4L90 topology, while complex 2 features a 1D zigzag chain structure. Both complexes are further extended into 3D supramolecular architectures via strong O–H···O hydrogen bonds. The thermal stabilities and luminescence properties of both complexes have been studied.
