Compactness is an important parameter to guarantee the subgrade stability, which is dramatically affected by temperature, especially in cold region. In this paper, the effect of compaction energy was considered in frozen stage under closed system. Frost-heave tests with different fines contents and moisture contents with non-water supply under different compaction energy conditions were carried out to find out the relationship between compaction energy and frost-heave ratio. Results showed that frost-heave ratio reached its maximum in the standard compaction energy test, minimum in the insufficient compaction energy test, and median in the over compaction energy tests. Surprisingly, frost-heave ratio first increased with the increase in fines content and then decreased with the increase in fines content. The water weight of absorption per unit area was also set up to explain it. It is an interesting discovery.

The influence of compaction energy on frost-heave characteristics of coarse-grained soil

The invention discloses a model test device and a test method for testing settlement of cyclic dynamic loading soil. The model test device comprises a model box, a tunnel model, an electrohydraulic servo power loading system, a settlement monitoring system and a control system, wherein the model box is filled with soil, and the tunnel model is arranged inside the soil; the electrohydraulic servo power loading system is arranged above the model box; the electrohydraulic servo power loading system and the settlement monitoring system are connected with the control system; the electrohydraulic servo power loading system comprises an electrohydraulic servo actuator, power control equipment and a test support frame; a motor is arranged inside the power control equipment; the motor is connectedwith an oil pressure pump; the oil pressure pump is connected with the electrohydraulic servo actuator. The model test device is convenient to use and simple, can acquire relevant test data more efficiently, and has great application and popularization values; the model test device is applicable to analysis and prediction of long-term settlement of various types of strata, and data obtained from atest can provide a basis for inverse analysis of soil settlement under a long-term cyclic loading action.
