TL;DR: The findings indicate that HLA class I and II gene polymorphism may be associated with susceptibility to NASH, fibrosis and other pathologic features and may be involved in the pathogenesis of NAFLD.
Journal ArticleDOI
Major Histocompatibility Complex Class I‐Related Chain A Alleles and Histology of Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease
Azza Karrar,Bijal Rajput,Siddharth Hariharan,Dinan Abdelatif,Mohamad Houry,Ali Moosvi,Irfan Ali,Daisong Tan,Sohailla Noor,Donna Esmaeili,Sean Felix,Lakshmi Alaparthi,Munkhzul Otgonsuren,Brian Lam,Zachary Goodman,Zobair M. Younossi +15 more
TL;DR: MICA alleles may be associated with NASH and its histologic features of inflammation and fibrosis and additional research is required to investigate the potential role of MICA in increased risk or protection against NAFLD.
Journal ArticleDOI
Serum Amyloid A Is Strongly Associated With Hyperlipidemia in Patients With Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD): 2090
Azza Karrar,Dinan Abdelatif,Irfan Ali,Mohamad Houry,Siddharth Hariharan,Khatera Salam,Sara Kim,Sreya Addanki,Zahra Younoszai,Munkhzul Otgonsuren,Zachary Goodman,Zobair M. Younossi +11 more
TL;DR: HCC DNA markers can be detected in urine of patients with HCC by short-amplicon, PCR-based assays and in combination with serum AFP, three biomarker urine DNA testing detected at least 30% more HCC in an open-labeled study compared to serum AFP alone.
