Certain example embodiments relate to a coated article including at least one infrared (IR) reflecting layer of a material such as silver or the like in a low-E coating, and methods of making the same. In certain cases, at least one layer of the coating is of or includes nickel and/or titanium (e.g., NixTiyOz). The provision of a layer including nickel titanium and/or an oxide thereof may permit a layer to be used that has good adhesion to the IR reflecting layer, and reduced absorption of visible light (resulting in a coated article with a higher visible transmission). When a layer including nickel titanium oxide is provided directly over and/or under the IR reflecting layer (e.g., as a barrier layer), this may result in improved chemical and mechanical durability. Thus, visible transmission may be improved if desired, without compromising durability; or, durability may simply be increased.

A nickel, chromium, iron alloy and method for use in producing weld deposits and weldments formed therefrom. The alloy comprises, in weight percent, about 28.5 to 31.0% chromium; about 0 to 16% iron, preferably 7.0 to 10.5% iron, less than about 1.0% manganese, preferably 0.05 to 0.35% manganese; about 2.1 to 4.0% niobium plus tantalum, preferably 2.1 to 3.5% niobium plus tantalum, and more preferably 2.2 to 2.8% niobium plus tantalum; 0 to 7.0% molybdenum, preferably 1.0 to 6.5%, and more preferably 3.0 to 5.0% molybdenum; less than 0.50% silicon, preferably 0.05 to 0.30% silicon; 0.01 to 0.35% titanium; 0 to 0.25% aluminum; less than 1.0% copper; less than 1.0% tungsten; less than 0.5% cobalt; less than about 0.10% zirconium; less than about 0.01% sulfur; less than 0.01% boron, preferably less than 0.0015% boron, and more preferably less than 0.001% boron; less than 0.03% carbon; less than about 0.02% phosphorous; 0.002 to 0.015% magnesium plus calcium; and balance nickel and incidental impurities. The method includes the steps of forming a welding electrode from the above alloy composition and melting the electrode to form a weld deposit. A preferred weldment made from the alloy and method includes an alloy substrate in the form of a tubesheet of a nuclear reactor.

Welding alloy and articles for use in welding, weldments and method for producing weldments

The alloys of this invention are of low strategic element content, non-magnetic, resistant to chloride-containing solutions as well as a wide range of other chemical agents, air-meltable, castable, of greatly improved fabricability and weldability, and consist by weight percentages of from about 20.5 % to about 35.5 % by weight Ni, from about 23.5 % to about 27.5 % by weight Cr, from about 4.0 % to about 6.7 % by weight Mo, from about 0.7 % to about 3.6 % by weight Cu, up to about 0.09 % by weight C, up to about 1.5 % by weight Si, up to about 5 % by weight Co, up to about 0.45 % by weight N, up to about 1 % by weight Ti, up to about 0.8 % by weight Cb, and up to about 0.3 % by weight Ce, La or Misch metal, up to about 2 % by weight Mn, up to about 1.6 % by weight Ta, and the balance essentially iron. The combined content by weight of Ni plus Co is at least about 25.5 % by weight and exceeds the weight content of Cr by at least 2 % but by not more than 8 %.

Corrosion resistant alloy

Certain example embodiments relate to Ni-inclusive ternary alloy being provided as a barrier layer for protecting an IR reflecting layer comprising silver or the like. The provision of a barrier layer comprising nickel, chromium, and/or molybdenum and/or oxides thereof may improve corrosion resistance, as well as chemical and mechanical durability. In certain examples, more than one barrier layer may be used on at least one side of the layer comprising silver. In still further examples, a NixCryMo2-based layer may be used as the functional layer, rather than or in addition to as a barrier layer, in a coating.

Disclosed is a nickel-base alloy which provides excellent corrosion resistance to a variety of severe environments, especially hot phosphoric acid. The alloy preferably contains, in weight percent: about 30 chromium, about 4 molybdenum, about 2 tungsten, about 1 Cb/Ta, about 1.5 copper, about 14 iron and the balance nickel plus the impurities and modifying elements usually found in alloy of this class. The alloy is eminently suited for use as articles in chemical processing apparatus in the manufacture and/or containment of phosphoric acid and sulfuric acid.
