Journal ArticleDOI

Solution-doping technique for fabrication of rare-earth-doped optical fibres

TL;DR: In this article, a solution-doping technique for the reproducible fabrication of low-loss optical fibres containing up to 4000 parts in 106 rare-earth ions is described.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

Highly programmable wavelength selective switch based on liquid crystal on silicon switching elements

TL;DR: In this article, a novel wavelength selective switch (WSS) based on a liquid crystal on silicon (LCOS) switching element is presented, which operates simultaneously at both 50 and 100 GHz channel spacing and is compatible with 40 G transmission requirements.
Journal ArticleDOI

Fabrication of low-loss optical fibres containing rare-earth ions

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used an extended MCVD process to produce rare-earth ion fibers with very high absorption levels in the visible and near infra-red regions, without significantly compromising the low-loss characteristics of the fiber at wavelengths between 950 and 1400 nm.
Journal ArticleDOI

Dispersion Trimming in a Reconfigurable Wavelength Selective Switch

TL;DR: In this article, the phase front of the optical signal inside the wavelength selective switch is adjusted to compensate for various amounts of dispersion (up to ± 60 ps/nm), tunable for each wavelength division multiplexed channel.
Journal ArticleDOI

Neodymium-doped silica single-mode fibre lasers

TL;DR: In this paper, the first CW operation of a neodymium-doped silica single-mode fiber laser pumped by a GaAIAs laser diode has been reported, with a laser threshold of less than 1 mW.
