With the advance of society and industrialization, a large number of organic and inorganic pollutants in water cause harm to humans and the environment. Therefore, the development of effective pollutant removal methods and materials is urgently needed. Porous organic polymers (POPs) are emerging porous materials formed by the polymerization of different structured building blocks. Adjustable pore size and structure, large specific surface area, and high porosity for POPs provide a platform for the study of the removal of pollutants in water. The high thermal stability and insoluble skeleton make them highly stable in water, not easily decomposed, and produce secondary degradation products. Porphyrins have large conjugation systems and their molecular centers are strongly coordinated with metal ions, which have been widely studied and applied in recent years. Porphyrin porous organic polymers (Py-POPs) combine the advantages of POPs and porphyrins with a large specific surface area, large porosity and photosensitivity. Based on the above, researchers have enthusiastically been working on Py-POPs. In this review, we summarized the research progress of Py-POPs in recent years. Firstly, we introduced the structures of porphyrins and linkage bonds that make up Py-POPs and the preparation methods of Py-POPs. Then the application of Py-POPs in the field of adsorption of pollutants in water and their removal by green photocatalytic degradation was presented. Finally, the prospects and challenges for the further development of Py-POPs were discussed. 

Synthesis of porphyrin porous organic polymers and their application of water pollution treatment: A review

The removal of phenolic compounds from aqueous solutions using novel adsorption techniques becomes a key research item. Of those, nanoparticles in particular, the low-cost and the high-strength aluminum oxide nanoparticles showed promising results in pollutant uptake and increase in the adsorption efficiency. This study examined various physicochemical process parameters such as temperature, pH, initial phenol concentration, and adsorbent doses, in addition to the impact of those parameters on the adsorption removal mechanism of phenol. The results highlighted that aluminum oxide nanoparticles successfully exhibited superior phenol removal from an aqueous solution in addition to a high potential regeneration of the consumed nanoparticles by HCl. For the adsorbent mass of 0.5 g, phenol adsorption uptake reached 92%. Kinetic studies performed using several models demonstrated the data best fitting with a pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Examining equilibrium studies of various isotherms, the adsorption data of phenol into aluminum oxide nanoparticles was confirmed to be controlled by film diffusion and best represented by the Langmuir isotherm. The maximum capacity of adsorption was 16.97 mg/g. For thermodynamics studies, the results indicated that the adsorption process can vary between endothermic and exothermic reactions. Such relative differences in heat generation and spontaneity in adsorption processes were demonstrated and confirmed by principal component analysis (PCA). This evidence is key for future investigations for the efficiency of adsorption conditions concerning the contaminant type and adsorbate compounds.

Adsorption of Phenol onto Aluminum Oxide Nanoparticles: Performance Evaluation, Mechanism Exploration, and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) of Thermodynamics

Synthesis and catalytic behavior of nickel Heterogenized in covalent organic frameworks as precatalysts in ethylene oligomerization

As one of the main nuclear wastes generated in the process of nuclear fission, radioactive iodine has attracted worldwide attention due to its harm to public safety and environmental pollution. Therefore, it is of crucial importance to develop materials that can rapidly and efficiently capture radioactive iodine. Herein, we report the construction of three electron-rich porous organic polymers (POPs), denoted as POP-E, POP-T and POP-P via Schiff base polycondensations reactions between Td-symmetric adamantane knot and four-branched “linkage” molecules. We demonstrated that all the three POPs showed high iodine adsorption capability, among which the adsorption capacity of POP-T for iodine vapor reached up to 3.94 g·g−1 and the removal rate of iodine in n-hexane solution was up to 99%. The efficient iodine capture mechanism of the POP-T was investigated through systematic comparison of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Raman spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) before and after iodine adsorption. The unique π-π conjugated system between imine bonds linked aromatic rings with iodine result in charge-transfer complexes, which explains the exceptional iodine capture capacity. Additionally, the introduction of heteroatoms into the framework would also enhance the iodine adsorption capability of POPs. Good retention behavior and recycling capacity were also observed for the POPs.
