Cancer incidence and mortality patterns in South Eastern Europe in the last decade: Gaps persist compared with the rest of Europe
Ariana Znaor,Corina van den Hurk,Maja Primic-Zakelj,Dominic Agius,Daniela Coza,Anna Demetriou,Nadia Dimitrova,Sultan Eser,Hülya Karakılınç,Snezana Zivkovic,Freddie Bray,Jan W. Coebergh +11 more
TL;DR: The lack of decline in overall cancer mortality in South Eastern Europe indicates suboptimal levels of cancer control in the region, and the North West to South East Europe gradient of increasing incidence and mortality rates of tobacco-related cancers is confirmed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma incidence and survival in European children and adolescents (1978–1997): Report from the Automated Childhood Cancer Information System project
TL;DR: A substantial increase in survival was observed in all European regions and systematic monitoring and evaluation of childhood and adolescent data on NHL will contribute to further improvement in public health policy for the young population of Europe.
Journal ArticleDOI
Disparities in melanoma incidence and mortality in South-Eastern Europe: Increasing incidence and divergent mortality patterns. Is progress around the corner?
Jelena Barbaric,Mario Šekerija,Dominic Agius,Daniela Coza,Nadya Dimitrova,Anna Demetriou,Chakameh Safaei Diba,Sultan Eser,Zivana Gavric,Maja Primic-Zakelj,Snezana Zivkovic,Miroslav Zvolsky,Freddie Bray,Jan Willem Coebergh,Ariana Znaor +14 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explored trends in malignant melanoma (MM) incidence and mortality in South-Eastern Europe (SEE) by sex and age and compared them with the trends in North-Western Europe (NWE).
Journal ArticleDOI
Childhood central nervous system tumours: Incidence and time trends in 13 Southern and Eastern European cancer registries.
Paraskevi Papathoma,Thomas P. Thomopoulos,Maria A. Karalexi,Anton Ryzhov,Anna Zborovskaya,Nadya Dimitrova,Snezana Zivkovic,Sultan Eser,Luís Antunes,Mario Šekerija,Tina Zagar,Joana Bastos,Anna Demetriou,Raluca Cozma,Daniela Coza,Evdoxia Bouka,Nick Dessypris,Maria Kantzanou,Prodromos Kanavidis,Helen Dana,Emmanuel Hatzipantelis,Maria Moschovi,Sophia Polychronopoulou,Apostolos Pourtsidis,Eftichia Stiakaki,Evgenia Papakonstantinou,Konstantinos Oikonomou,Spyros Sgouros,Antonios Vakis,Basilios Zountsas,Charis Bourgioti,Nikolaos Kelekis,Panos Prassopoulos,Theodosia Choreftaki,Savvas Papadopoulos,Kalliopi Stefanaki,Katerina Strantzia,Elisabeth Cardis,Eva Steliarova-Foucher,Eleni Petridou +39 more
TL;DR: The heterogeneity in registration practices and incidence patterns of CNS tumours necessitates further investigation aiming to provide clues in aetiology and direct investments into surveillance and early tumour detection in Southern-Eastern Europe.
Journal ArticleDOI
Incidence and time trends of childhood lymphomas: findings from 14 Southern and Eastern European cancer registries and the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results, USA
Marios K. Georgakis,Maria A. Karalexi,Domenic Agius,Luís Antunes,Joana Bastos,Daniela Coza,Anna Demetriou,Nadya Dimitrova,Sultan Eser,Margareta Florea,Anton Ryzhov,Mario Šekerija,Tina Žagar,Anna Zborovskaya,Snezana Zivkovic,Evdoxia Bouka,Prodromos Kanavidis,Helen Dana,Emmanuel Hatzipantelis,Maria Kourti,Maria Moschovi,Sophia Polychronopoulou,Eftichia Stiakaki,Μaria Kantzanou,Apostolos Pourtsidis,Eleni Petridou +25 more
TL;DR: Registry-based data reveal variable patterns and time trends of childhood lymphomas in SEE and SEER during the last decades, possibly reflecting diverse levels of socioeconomic development of the populations in the respective areas; optimization of registration process may allow further exploration of molecular characteristics of disease subtypes.
