Differentiation of dementia with Lewy bodies from Alzheimer's disease using Mini-Mental State Examination and brain perfusion SPECT.

TL;DR: Combined studies of MMSE and brain SPECT achieved a high discrimination between DLB and AD with a sensitivity of 81% and a specificity of 85%, suggesting that there is a useful and practical approach to differentiate DLB from AD.

TL;DR: Comparing regional cerebral blood flow patterns in patients with dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) and Alzheimer’s disease (AD) using single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) and investigating the diagnostic utility of SPECT study in differentiating between DLB and AD revealed that Objective and quantitative CBF measurement in the medial occipital lobe may be useful in the clinical differentiation of DLB.
