TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present methods and arrangements for handling unreliable scheduling grants in a WCDMA-communication system, where a user equipment detects that a received scheduling grant is unreliable and adjusts its serving grant based on that information.
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods and arrangements for handling unreliable scheduling grants in a WCDMA-communication system. A user equipment detects that a received scheduling grant is unreliable and adjust its serving grant based on that information. The user equipment is also able to report continuously received unreliable grants as an event to the network, allowing the network to adapt its operation to reduce the unreliable grants.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors propose a method for improving uplink communications in a Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) communication system, wherein mobile terminals can transmit at various transmission power levels.
Abstract: Methods for improving uplink communications in a Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) communication system, wherein mobile terminals can transmit at various transmission power levels. In a mobile terminal, the method includes the steps of receiving a configuration message having at least one of a power offset parameter and a maximum number of retransmission attempts parameter; when the mobile terminal performs a non-scheduled transmission, it transmits according to the parameters contained in the configuration message. In a network node, the method includes the steps of transmitting to at least one mobile terminal the configuration message having at least one of a power offset parameter and a maximum number of retransmission attempts parameter; and, adjusting a power setting for the transmission of acknowledgement or negative-acknowledgement messages from the wireless network to one or more of mobile terminals.

TL;DR: In this paper, a load control method is described that enables a base station to broadcast three downlink signals including a busy indicator, a maximum resource indicator and a minimum resource indicator to a mobile terminal.
Abstract: A load control method is described herein that enables a base station to broadcast three downlink signals including a busy indicator, a maximum resource indicator and a minimum resource indicator to a mobile terminal. In response to receiving the downlink signals, the mobile terminal limits the utilization of a resource (e.g., bit rate, transmission power, power offset) it uses to transmit data to the base station. The mobile terminal may also send an uplink signal including a resource request to the base station. The base station can use the resource request to change the downlink signals if needed. It is with the proper use of these uplink/downlink signals that the behavior of the base station can be automatically optimized to the load situation.

TL;DR: In this paper, the capacity gains of short TTI, hybrid ARQ and scheduling in node-B were studied from both the link-level and system-level perspectives, and the link performance results focus on the gains obtained by the introduction of short tTI and hybrid arQ with soft combining in node B. In the system performance results, also evaluate node B based rate scheduling for both 2 ms TTI and 10 ms TTL.
Abstract: We present the potential performance improvements attainable by new enhancements to the WCDMA uplink. Improvements can be expected in both system capacity and end-user perceived performance. In this paper we focus on the capacity gains of short TTI, hybrid ARQ and scheduling in node-B. The performance is studied from both the link-level and system-level perspectives. The link performance results focus on the gains obtained by the introduction of short TTI and hybrid ARQ with soft combining in node-B. In the system performance results, we also evaluate node-B based rate scheduling for both 2 ms TTI and 10 ms TTL. Our studies indicate that with the introduction of enhanced uplink the gain in uplink capacity can be in the order of 70-100%.

TL;DR: The results show that the enhanced uplink can significantly improve the end-to-end performance of both for up- and downlink oriented traffic when compared to the uplink provided by 3GPP R5.
Abstract: In this paper we study the end-to-end performance of the enhanced uplink of WCDMA. We present results for latency and TCP performance on both uplink and downlink when using the enhanced uplink. The results show that the enhanced uplink can significantly improve the end-to-end performance of both for up- and downlink oriented traffic when compared to the uplink provided by 3GPP R5. The expected performance depends strongly on the configuration of the enhanced uplink, especially on the HARQ operating point.

TL;DR: In this article, a base station and a method for allocating and deallocating uplink base station processing resources to a mobile terminal is presented. But the base station comprises means for predicting a likelihood of successful decoding of a future transmission, and means for making decisions based on said prediction.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a base station and a method in a mobile telecommunication network for allocating and de-allocating uplink base station processing resources to a mobile terminal. The base station are adapted to communicate to a mobile terminal on an uplink channel supporting macro-diversity, and the base station is adapted to be a non-serving base-station without control of the resource allocation to the mobile-terminal. TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a method for scheduling resources for uplink transmissions in a radio access network comprising access points which own pre-assigned resources, where each AP places its resources to the disposition of other APs in the access network, and an AP (7) transmits a blocking signal (BLOCK R3) if it does not allow a UT (3) which is served by an AP(5) in another cell, to use its resources (R3).
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for scheduling resources for uplink transmissions in a radio access network comprising access points which own pre-assigned resources. The invention also relates to an access point (5-7), a user terminal (1-4) and an access point controller 8. Characteristic features of the invention are that each AP places its resources to the disposition of other APs in the access network, and that an AP (7) transmits a blocking signal (BLOCK R3) if it does not allow a UT (3) , which is served by an AP (5) in another cell, to use its resources (R3). A UT that detects a blocking signal from an AP that owns the resources on which the UT is transmitting immediately stops transmission on said resources. The signal quality of a detected blocking signal may be used for setting the transmission power on the resources the UT has borrowed from the AP which transmits the blocking signal. Based on statistics on the APs which transmit blocking signals long-term pre-allocation of resources among the APs is made.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method and apparatus that reduces the likelihood of having a high peak power in any one bit position of code multiplexed downlink control channel symbols is described.
Abstract: A method and apparatus that reduces the likelihood of having a high peak power in any one bit position of code multiplexed downlink control channel symbols is described herein. An exemplary method includes selecting a different bit-level spreading sequence for each mobile terminal from a set of orthogonal bit-level spreading sequences, where code values in any one bit position are not the same for all of the bit-level spreading sequences in the set. When a code multiplexing system uses the selected bit-level spreading sequences from the sequence set to code multiplex the downlink control channel symbols, the resulting combined signal has a lower likelihood of having a high peak power.
