Landslides in a changing climate
TL;DR: A review of landslide-climate studies can be found in this paper, where the authors examine advantages and limits of the approaches adopted to evaluate the effects of climate variations on landslides, including prospective modelling and retrospective methods that use landslide and climate records.
Journal ArticleDOI
A review of the recent literature on rainfall thresholds for landslide occurrence
TL;DR: The most recent papers published in scientific journals are reviewed, highlighting significant advances and critical issues and the definition of standard procedures for the identification of rainfall events and for the objective definition of the thresholds.
Journal ArticleDOI
Rainfall thresholds for possible landslide occurrence in Italy
Silvia Peruccacci,Maria Teresa Brunetti,Stefano Luigi Gariano,Massimo Melillo,Mauro Rossi,Fausto Guzzetti +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors used landslide information obtained from multiple sources and rainfall data captured by 2228 rain gauges to build a catalogue of 2309 rainfall events with shallow landslides in Italy between January 1996 and February 2014, and determined the corresponding rainfall duration D (in hours) and cumulated event rainfall E (in mm).
Journal ArticleDOI
Geographical landslide early warning systems
Fausto Guzzetti,Stefano Luigi Gariano,Silvia Peruccacci,Maria Teresa Brunetti,Ivan Marchesini,Mauro Rossi,Massimo Melillo +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a critical analysis of nine main assumptions that form the rationale for landslide forecasting and early warning is performed, and the authors conclude that operational forecast of weather-induced landslides is feasible, and it can help reduce landslide risk.
Journal ArticleDOI
Calibration and validation of rainfall thresholds for shallow landslide forecasting in Sicily, southern Italy.
Stefano Luigi Gariano,Maria Teresa Brunetti,Giulio Iovine,Massimo Melillo,Silvia Peruccacci,Oreste G. Terranova,Carmela Vennari,Fausto Guzzetti +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a catalogue of 200 rainfall conditions that have resulted in at least 223 shallow landslides in Sicily, southern Italy, in the 11-year period 2002-2011, was exploited to determine regional event duration-cumulated event rainfall (ED) thresholds for shallow landslide occurrence.
