A wellhead flange assembly 12 is provided for interconnecting the threaded end of an upwardly projecting screwed wellhead 16 with a lower flange of the blowout preventer 24. The flange assembly comprises a threaded adapter 40 including a thin-walled portion 54, a flange support portion 56, and an upper stop portion 52. A wellhead flange 42 includes a plurality of bolt holes 44 and an upper surface 51 for engagement with the lower flange of the blowout preventer. A plurality of securing members 48 are provided for selectively connecting and disconnecting the wellhead flange 42 and the threaded adapter 40. An adapter-to-flange seal 60 is provided for sealing engagement between the threaded adapter 40 and the wellhead flange 42. According the method of the invention, the threaded adapter may be easily heated to facilitate removal from the screwed wellhead, or may be cut off the screwed wellhead without damaging the screwed wellhead, thereby permitting the reuse of the wellhead flange on a new well.

Inhibitors of E-, P- and L-selectin binding are synthesized by an aldol addition reaction between a glycoside aldehyde precursor and dihydroxyacetone phosphate or a derivative thereof. The addition reaction is catalyzed by aldolase. The inhibitors exhibit an activity comparable to sialyl Lewis X with respect to the E-selectin binding assay and high activities in the P- and L-selectin binding assays. The inhibitors are employable for blocking neutrophil inflamatory conditions.

FIG. 2A shows an alignment and sealing arrangement for connecting two non-gender opposed conduit parts (20) and (20'). Seal (22) is captured by two opposed seal protrusions (20C) and (20C') residing on conduit part's end. Bore (18A) of alignment element (18) closely receives opposed alignment protrusions located on conduit parts' end. The alignment protrusions are substantially referenced to their respective passageways. Axial force is applied to displace opposed conduit parts toward one another to cause seal protrusions to compress seal, drawing conduit parts' passageways (20E) and (20E') into an aligned relation, and reducing adjacent mating faces into approximate flush relation with one intersection (30). This coupling has one seal removed from direct contact with media, eliminates any appreciable media entrapment space, and desirably reduces flow disturbance along passageways of conduits.

A thin flange, for use with a vacuum system, includes a member having a diameter and a thickness. The member has a first face having a first sealing surface. The member has a second face opposed and substantially parallel to the first face. The second face has a second sealing surface. The thickness of the member is less than previously attained. In some designs, the thickness of the member is less than 0.28 inches.

A load segment assembly for use in pipe swivel joints or pipe connectors locks male and female hubs of a joint together while providing an axial bearing therebetween. The load assembly includes arcuate segments each having a dove-tail groove on the face of the convex side of the arcuate segment, requiring a flexible joining member to be threaded therethrough, providing maximum shear and bearing strength.

A rotatable vacuum flange includes a flange ring (10) having a recess (20), an insert (30) mounted in the recess (20) in the flange ring (10), the insert (30) including a seal portion (34) and being adapted for vacuum-tight attachment to a vacuum conduit (40), and a wire spring (50) positioned between the flange ring (10) and the insert (30). The wire spring (50) retains the insert (30) in the recess (20) in the flange ring (10) and permits rotation of the insert (30) relative to the flange ring (10). The flange ring (10) and the insert (30) include grooves (44) located in opposing alignment to receive the wire spring (50).
