Journal ArticleDOI

Normalizing XRF-scanner data: A cautionary note on the interpretation of high-resolution records from organic-rich lakes

TL;DR: In this paper, it is shown that Al is the lightest element that can be measured using the Itrax XRF-scanner, which can be used to normalize the elements of the lithogenic fraction of the sediment against variations in organic content.
Journal ArticleDOI

The importance of nature in mediating social and psychological benefits associated with visits to freshwater blue space

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the importance of nature to people's visits to blue spaces and investigated the sociodemographic predictors of visit frequency and location, the benefits received, and the importance the nature to the visit, concluding that social interaction and psychological benefits were the most important benefits obtained from visiting blue spaces.
Journal ArticleDOI

Aggregate National Early Warning Score (NEWS) values are more important than high scores for a single vital signs parameter for discriminating the risk of adverse outcomes

TL;DR: The recommended NEWS escalation protocol produces additional work for the bedside nurse and responding doctor, disproportionate to a modest benefit in increased detection of adverse outcomes, which may have significant ramifications for efficient staff resource allocation, distort patient safety focus and risk alarm fatigue.
Journal ArticleDOI

A Comparison of the Ability of the Physiologic Components of Medical Emergency Team Criteria and the U.K. National Early Warning Score to Discriminate Patients at Risk of a Range of Adverse Clinical Outcomes

TL;DR: Comparing the ability of medical emergency team criteria and the National Early Warning Score to discriminate cardiac arrest, unanticipated ICU admission and death within 24 hours of a vital signs measurement and to quantify the associated workloads found some medical emergencyteam systems have a lower specificity and would generate greater workloads.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Caregiver Health Effects of Caring for Young Children with Developmental Disabilities: A Meta-analysis

TL;DR: The evidence for the effect on mothers’ health of caring for young children with developmental disabilities, and the influence of different disability diagnoses and socioeconomic status, is assessed.
