Why do nurses abuse patients? Reflections from South African obstetric services - Social Science & Medicine - Vol. 47, 11 - ISBN: 02779536 - p.1781-1795

This paper aims at critically examining health education practices in the Family Health Program (PSF – Programa de Saude da Familia, Brazil) by building on the assumption that health policies are brought up to date in services by social actors and their everyday actions. The extent to which the principle of integrality is embodied in such practices is investigated, thus contributing to the debate on the grounds and limits of PSF’s strategies towards reorienting its model of assistance by focusing on basic care. In the context of current Brazilian health policy, PSF has played a decisive role in building and consolidating the Brazilian Unified Health System (Sistema Unico de Saude - SUS). Health education practices and their underlying sanitary principles are historically reviewed in order to determine the rationale for such practices. The prevailing health education model, shown to be essentially at odds with the principle of integrality, is then characterized and analyzed against an emerging health education model – herein called “dialogic model” – the logic of which would be in accordance with the integrality of care.

Um modelo de educação em saúde para o Programa Saúde da Família: pela integralidade da atenção e reorientação do modelo assistencial

As praticas de saude contemporâneas estao passando por uma importante crise em sua historia. Em contraste com seu expressivo desenvolvimento cientifico e tecnologico, estas praticas vem encontrando serias limitacoes para responder efetivamente as complexas necessidades de saude de individuos e populacoes. Recentes propostas de humanizacao e integralidade no cuidado em saude tem se configurado em poderosas e difundidas estrategias para enfrentar criativamente a crise e construir alternativas para a organizacao das praticas de atencao a saude no Brasil. Este ensaio de reflexao tem como objetivo examinar, desde uma perspectiva hermeneutica, alguns dos desafios filosoficos e praticos no sentido da humanizacao das praticas de saude. O conceito ontologico de Cuidado (Sorge), de Heidegger, em suas relacoes com os modos de ser (do) humano, e a base da revisao critica empreendida acerca das caracteristicas atuais da atencao a saude. O desenvolvimento da analise e orientado por um estudo de caso de atencao primaria a saude, extraido da experiencia profissional do proprio autor. Projeto de vida, construcao de identidade, confianca e responsabilidade sao apontados como tracos principais a serem considerados na compreensao das interacoes entre profissionais de saude e pacientes e como pontos-chave para a reconstrucao etica, politica e tecnica do cuidado em saude.

O cuidado, os modos de ser (do) humano e as práticas de saúde

Since the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) was announced, we had an unprecedented change in the way we organize ourselves socially and in our daily routine. Children and adolescents were also greatly impacted by the abrupt withdrawal from school, social life and outdoor activities. Some of them also experienced domestic violence growing. The stress they are subjected to directly impacts their mental health on account of increased anxiety, changes in their diets and in school dynamics, fear or even failing to scale the problem. Our aim is to bring up a discussion under different aspects and to alert public health and government agents about the need for surveillance and care of these individuals. We hope that the damage to their mental health as a result of the side effect of this pandemic can be mitigated by adequate and timely intervention.

COVID-19 pandemic impact on children and adolescents' mental health: Biological, environmental, and social factors.

The term "humanization" has been employed constantly in the health field. It is the base of a wide set of initiatives, even though the concept does not have a clear definition. Generally, it refers to a kind of assistance that gives importance to the technical quality of care, associated with recognition of patients' rights, subjectivity and culture. Such concept intends to guide a new praxis in the care production in health. This article, of exploratory mark, aims analyze the speech of the Health Department on the assistance humanization. We investigate the meanings and expectations associates to the humanization idea from the analysis of the official texts, retaking a critical dialog with the authors of the area of public health and of the social sciences. We argue the central ideas of the humanization as opposition to the violence; quality assistance offer, articulating the technological advances with welcoming; professional working terms improvement; and communicational process enlargement, central axis of the texts.

Violence against women, children, and adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic: Overview, contributing factors, and mitigating measures

This article discuss the complex relations between drugs and violence. Drawing on empirical studies and current forms of discourse, it analyzes conceptual and methodological problems related to the establishment of causal nexuses, risks, and associations. By demonstrating the theoretical and practical difficulties in such associations, it also points to the need for a debate in the field of public health and social policies. The article expresses concern that programs and prevention not be contaminated by fallacies, contributing nothing to an understanding of (or action related to) the social issue of drugs.

A complexidade das relações entre drogas, álcool e violência

This paper aims at: (a) to analyze the distribution of the cases of domestic violence against women (adolescent and adult) in relation to emergency care due to external causes; (b) to characterize the victims and the rendered care; (c) to analyze the circumstances in which events happened. In methodological terms, it tries to articulate the quantitative and qualitative approaches. The study was developed in two public hospitals of reference placed in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Of the 72 assisted women, most referred to the husband, the partner or the boyfriend as the aggressor (69,4%) and were beaten (70.4%), especially on the face and on the head. The study cames to the conclusion that the health services should provide a good clinical care and promote prevention's actions.

Caracterização dos casos de violência doméstica contra a mulher atendidos em dois hospitais públicos do Rio de Janeiro

O artigo propoe discutir o conceito de resiliencia a partir de uma revisao critica. Foram priorizados textos produzidos por orgaos que tem um papel direcionador no campo da saude da crianca e do adolescente (OPAS - Organizacao Pan-Americana da Saude; ASBRA - Associacao Brasileira de Adolescencia). Discute-se as principais definicoes de resiliencia. Sao debatidas as contribuicoes e limitacoes das leituras vigentes. Debate-se ainda, as possibilidades conceituais e operativas da resiliencia frente as situacoes de maus-tratos contra crianca e adolescente, tomando o exemplo do abuso sexual intrafamiliar. Conclui-se que o conceito de resiliencia apresenta polarizacoes em torno de certos eixos: "adaptacao/superacao", "inato/adquirido", "permanente/circunstancial". Contudo, ele aponta para um ponto comum: a singularidade e a delicadeza das relacoes microssociais de promocao em saude.
