Journal ArticleDOI

Evaluation of the polyphenol content and antioxidant properties of methanol extracts of the leaves, stem, and root barks of Moringa oleifera Lam.

TL;DR: The high antioxidant/radical scavenging effects observed for different parts of M. oleifera appear to provide justification for their widespread therapeutic use in traditional medicine in different continents and may impact on the cancer chemopreventive potential of the plant.
Journal ArticleDOI

In vitro trypanocidal effect of methanolic extract of some Nigerian savannah plants

TL;DR: In this paper, the trypanocidal activity of twenty-three plants harvested from the Savannah vegetation belt of Nigeria were analyzed in vitro for trypanocalidal activity against trypanosoma congolense at concentrations of 4 mg/ml, 0.4 mg/m and 0.04 mg/mm.
Journal ArticleDOI

Antioxidant potential of African medicinal plants

TL;DR: In this review, research on the antioxidant potential of medicinal plants of African origin between 1965 and September, 2004 is considered and accumulated evidence suggests that ROS can be scavenged through chemoprevention utilizing natural antioxidant compounds present in foods and medicinal plants.
Journal ArticleDOI

Indigenous knowledge system for treatment of trypanosomiasis in Kaduna state of Nigeria.

TL;DR: A survey was carried out in Kaduna State of Nigeria to establish the indigenous knowledge system for treating trypanosomiasis in domestic animals and revealed the use of several plants either alone or in combination for the treatment and management of trypasonomiasis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Azadirachta indica (neem): a plant of multiple biological and pharmacological activities

TL;DR: How a developing country like Nigeria can harness the numerous opportunities presented by the multi-biological and multi-pharmacological nature of A. indica to solve some of her myriad problems, including those in the agricultural, health and economic sectors is reviewed.
