Journal ArticleDOI
Bone formation by three‐dimensional stromal osteoblast culture in biodegradable polymer scaffolds
Susan L. Ishaug,Genevieve M. Crane,Michael J. Miller,Alan W. Yasko,Michael J. Yaszemski,Antonios G. Mikos +5 more
TL;DR: The feasibility of using poly(alpha-hydroxy ester) foams as scaffolding materials for the transplantation of autogenous osteoblasts to regenerate bone tissue is suggested.
Journal ArticleDOI
Bone tissue engineering
Journal ArticleDOI
Osteoblast function on synthetic biodegradable polymers
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that poly(alpha-hydroxy esters) can provide a suitable substrate for osteoblast culture and hold promise in bone regeneration by osteoblasts transplantation and in tissue culture polystyrene controls.
Journal ArticleDOI
Retinal pigment epithelium cells cultured on synthetic biodegradable polymers.
Giovanni G. Giordano,Robert C. Thomson,Susan L. Ishaug,Antonios G. Mikos,Salimah Cumber,Charles A. Garcia,Devjani Lahiri-Munir +6 more
TL;DR: All the polymers studied were suitable for RPE culture; however, high MW 50:50 PLGA and 75:25 PLGA proved to be the best in terms of manufacturing properties, cell attachment, and proliferation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mini-review: Islet transplantation to create a bioartificial pancreas.
TL;DR: Microencapsulation appears to be the most promising system of immunoisolation, however, the design of a device suitable for human clinical use remains a challenge.
