The effects of physical abuse on children's social relationships.

TL;DR: Findings were that abused children had lower peer status and less positive reciprocity with peers chosen as friends; they were rated by peers as more aggressive and less cooperative and by parents and teachers as more disturbed; and their social networks showed more insularity, atypicality, and negativity.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the role of guardian and peer support and behavioral coping strategies on the relation between youths' community violence exposure and their delinquent behavior and found that support from peers buffered the effects of witnessing community violence on delinquent behavior of boys, but it amplified the effect of victimization for both girls and boys.

Mothers' personal social networks and child maltreatment.

TL;DR: The social networks of 32 mothers in families being treated in a hospital-based program for indicated cases of child abuse and neglect were compared to the networks of a demographically comparable control group, and clinic mothers were found to be more isolated and more insulated from other people in their -networks.
