Structure and Spectroscopy of Copper−Dioxygen Complexes

A multicolor organic light emitting device employs vertically stacked layers of double heterostructure devices which are fabricated from organic compounds. The vertical stacked structure is formed on a glass base having a transparent coating of ITO or similar metal to provide a substrate. Deposited on the substrate is the vertical stacked arrangement of three double heterostructure devices, each fabricated from a suitable organic material. Stacking is implemented such that the double heterostructure with the longest wavelength is on the top of the stack. This constitutes the device emitting red light on the top with the device having the shortest wavelength, namely, the device emitting blue light, on the bottom of the stack. Located between the red and blue device structures is the green device structure. The devices are configured as stacked to provide a staircase profile whereby each device is separated from the other by a thin transparent conductive contact layer to enable light emanating from each of the devices to pass through the semitransparent contacts and through the lower device structures while further enabling each of the devices to receive a selective bias. The devices are substantially transparent when de-energized, making them useful for heads-up display applications.

The synthesis and photophysical characterization of a series of (N,C2‘-(2-para-tolylpyridyl))2Ir(LL‘) [(tpy)2Ir(LL‘)] (LL‘ = 2,4-pentanedionato (acac), bis(pyrazolyl)borate ligands and their analogues, diphosphine chelates and tert-butylisocyanide (CN-t-Bu)) are reported. A smaller series of [(dfppy)2Ir(LL‘)] (dfppy = N,C2‘-2-(4‘,6‘-difluorophenyl)pyridyl) complexes were also examined along with two previously reported compounds, (ppy)2Ir(CN)2- and (ppy)2Ir(NCS)2- (ppy = N,C2‘-2-phenylpyridyl). The (tpy)2Ir(PPh2CH2)2BPh2 and [(tpy)2Ir(CN-t-Bu)2](CF3SO3) complexes have been structurally characterized by X-ray crystallography. The Ir−Caryl bond lengths in (tpy)2Ir(CN-t-Bu)2+ (2.047(5) and 2.072(5) A) and (tpy)2Ir(PPh2CH2)2BPh2 (2.047(9) and 2.057(9) A) are longer than their counterparts in (tpy)2Ir(acac) (1.982(6) and 1.985(7) A). Monofunctional Tetrahedral Zinc Complexes L3ZnX [L3Tris(pyrazolyl)borate]



The pyrazolyl borates K[HBpz3*] (abbreviated KL3, pz*3-phenyl-, 3-tolyl-, 3-anisyl-3,5-diphenyl pyrazolyl) react with zinc salts ZnX2 (XCl, Br, I, NO3) to form the mononuclear neutral tetrahedral zinc complexes L3ZnX (1 – 4). The corresponding alkylzinc complexes L3ZnR (5 – 8; RMe, Et, tBu, Ph) result either from L3ZnCl and LiR or from ZnEt2 and KL3. These alkylzinc compounds are remarkably stable towards oxidation and hydrolysis. For specific cases the reaction of L3ZnR with carboxylic acids is found to yield the carboxylates L3ZnOCOR (9, 10), and likewise with thioacetic acid to yield the thioacetates L3ZnSCOMe (11). Facile cleavage of L3ZnR with thiols and selenophenol produces the thiolates L3ZnSR (12, 13) and the selenolates L3ZnSePh (14). The complexes L3ZntBu which are the most reactive of the alkylzinc compounds are cleaved by H2O, H2S, NH3 and various OH and NH compounds with formation of the bis(ligand) complexes Zn(L3)2 (15). Crystal structure determinations of one L3ZnX complex each for XNO3 (4a), CH3 (5a), SCOMe (11a), and SEt (12a) confirm the nature of the compounds and the relation of 4a and 12a to the active centers of zinc-containing enzymes.

The present invention relates to multistep syntheses of hexafluoropropylene from acyclic three-carbon hydrocarbons or partially halogenated acyclic three-carbon hydrocarbons. In all these syntheses the first step is a vapor-phase chlorofluorination of the starting material to one or more saturated chlorofluorocarbons. Novel catalysts are also provided.
