Local texture and fatigue crack initiation in a Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy

TL;DR: In this paper, a ghost structure inherited from the forging process, the scale of which is roughly 100 times the apparent grain size, was found to govern the initiation process of fatigue cracks in a bimodal TA6V titanium alloy.
Journal ArticleDOI

Plane strain crack closure and cyclic hardening

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of cyclic hardening on crack tip plasticity and crack closure were investigated using abaqus finite element analysis and an empirical formula was provided to calculate the crack tip zone size under plane strain conditions in a cyclically hardening material.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cyclic plasticity and variable amplitude fatigue

TL;DR: Load history effects are observed both in cyclic plasticity and during fatigue crack growth as mentioned in this paper, which is analogous to a kinematic hardening effect, but related to crack tip mechanical fields.
Journal ArticleDOI

Fatigue crack growth under non-proportional mixed-mode loading in ferritic-pearlitic steel

TL;DR: In this article, a simple sum of the contributions of each mode for ΔKI= 0.25 ΔKII but above this value a synergetic effect is found. And the stability of crack path according to the maximum growth rate criterion is demonstrated.
