Comparison of Conventional Anterior Surgery and Laparoscopic Surgery for Inguinal-Hernia Repair
M. S. L. Liem,Y. van der Graaf,C. J. Van Steensel,R. U. Boelhouwer,G. J. Clevers,W. S. Meijer,Laurents P. S. Stassen,J. P. Vente,W. F. Weidema,A. J. P. Schrijvers,T. J. M. V. Van Vroonhoven +10 more
TL;DR: Patients with inguinal hernias who undergo laparoscopic repair recover more rapidly and have fewer recurrences than those who undergo open surgical repair.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cost-effectiveness of extraperitoneal laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair: a randomized comparison with conventional herniorrhaphy. Coala trial group.
TL;DR: A better quality of life in the recovery period and the possibility of replacing parts of the disposable kit with reusable instruments may result in the laparoscopic repair becoming dominantly better--that is, less expensive and more effective from a societal perspective.

Journal ArticleDOI
Risk Factors for Inguinal Hernia in Women: A Case-Control Study
TL;DR: In particular, smoking, appendectomy, other abdominal operations, and multiple deliveries were not associated with inguinal hernia in females, and the protective effect of present sports activity may be explained by optimizing the resistance of the abdominal musculature protecting the relatively small inguinals weak spot in the female.
Journal ArticleDOI
Risk factors for cancellation of stereotactic large core needle biopsy on a prone biopsy table.
Helena M. Verkooijen,P.H.M. Peeters,I. H. M. Borel Rinkes,RM Pijnappel,A Kaya,W.P.Th.M. Mali,T. J. M. V. Van Vroonhoven +6 more
TL;DR: The prediction rule, based on mammographic and clinical findings, discriminated patients with successful and cancelled needle biopsy procedures to a certain extent, indicated the risk of cancellation of the stereotacic biopsy procedure is considerable in cases of very dense breast tissue or the presence of multiple risk factors.
