Viking relativity experiment - Verification of signal retardation by solar gravity

TL;DR: In this paper, a 14 months of data obtained from radio ranging to the Viking spacecraft was verified to an estimated accuracy of 0.1%, the prediction of the general theory of relativity that the roundtrip times of light signals traveling between the earth and Mars are increased by the direct effect of solar gravity.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Viking Relativity Experiment

TL;DR: In this paper, measurements of the roundtrip time of flight of radio signals transmitted from the earth to the Viking spacecraft are analyzed to test the predictions of Einstein's theory of general relativity.
Journal ArticleDOI

Lander locations, Mars physical Ephemeris, and solar system parameters: Determination from Viking Lander tracking data

TL;DR: The radio tracking data from the Viking landers have been analyzed to determine the parameters of the Mars physical ephemeris, the radii of Mars at the landing sites, and the lander locations as mentioned in this paper.
