This work reports an analytical method for determining electrical resistivity (ρ) and sheet resistance (RS) of isotropic conductors. The method is compared with previous numerical solutions and available experimental data showing a universal behavior for isotropic conductors. An approximated solution is also reported allowing one to easily determine ρ and RS for samples either with regular or arbitrary shapes.

Bu çalışmada, yarıiletkenlerin aygıt karakterizasyonu için ortam koşullarına bağlı değişimlerde olası kullanıcı hatalarını, maliyet ve zahmeti azaltmak amacıyla Arduino UNO ile kontrol edilen otomatik Hall/Direnç (OHD) ölçüm sistem tasarımı yapılarak, çeşitli yarıiletken örnekler üzerinde kullanımı test edilmiştir. Geliştirilen bu sistemde yarıiletken örnek yüzeyinde oluşturulan Van der Pauw konfigürasyonundaki elektriksel kontaklar, on iki adet tek-kontak rölenin uygun olan çıkışlarına 8-bitlik kontrol sinyali ile yönlendirilmiştir. Bu işlem, uygun kontrol sinyalleri ile test edilen devre elemanının (DUT) belirli terminallerinden akım uygulanmasını ve bu akımın neden olduğu gerilim farkının ilgili kontaklar arasından ölçülmesini sağlamaktadır. Deneysel verilerin toplanması, istatiksel analiz ve gerekli diğer hesaplamalar ardışık olarak aynı bilgisayar programı içinde yapılabilmektedir. Dolayısıyla sistematik, hızlı ve güvenilir bir karakterizasyon yapılması mümkün hale gelmektedir. Tararlanan bu sistem ile seri şekilde yüzey direnci, özdirenç ile manyetik alan etkisindeki taşıyıcı konsantrasyonu, taşıyıcı türü, mobilite değerleri belirlenebilmektedir. Sistemin uygulamadaki performansı referans örnekler için test edildiğinde, elde edilen ölçüm sonuçları arasında oldukça iyi bir uyum olduğu gözlenmiştir. Diğer taraftan yeni tasarım ölçüm sistemi ile daha düşük maliyetli ve taşınabilir bir yapı oluşturulabilmiştir. Bu tasarlanan yeni OHD ölçüm sistemi yarıiletkenlerin sıcaklık, ışık şiddeti ve dalgaboyuna bağlı olarak karakterize edilmesi için de oldukça elverişli özelliklere sahiptir.

Yarıiletken Aygıt Karakterizasyonu için Arduino UNO Tabanlı Otomatik Hall/Direnç Ölçüm Sistem Tasarımı ve Uygulaması

The simulation and construction of a direct current (dc) and alternating current (ac) resistor, based on a silicon wafer, has been described and demonstrated. By applying the van der Pauw (vdP) method, and the Thompson–Lampard (TL) theorem, to within approximations accommodating the conditions of the resistor’s construction, a constant resistance ratio, ( $\pi $ /ln2)2, was derived that is independent of the sample resistivity, and thickness. The constant ratio, valued at approximately 20.5, can theoretically be used as a basis of comparison between two distinct calibration chains, one based on the traceability from a calculable capacitor (CC), and the other based on the quantum Hall effect. To support the calculated ratio, several sets of simulations were performed for both dc and ac cases. The dc simulation results agreed with the ratio value to within 0.035% when using a wafer thickness of 0.53 mm. Additionally, the experimental dc and ac (1 kHz) results agreed with the calculated ratio value to within 0.23%, with not more than 0.06% standard uncertainty before point contact errors from device fabrication.

Using a Natural Ratio to Compare DC and AC Resistances

This paper presents an extensive collection of calculated correction factors that account for the combined effects of a wide range of non-ideal conditions often encountered in realistic four-point probe and van der Pauw experiments. In this context, “non-ideal conditions” refer to conditions that deviate from the assumptions on sample and probe characteristics made in the development of these two techniques. We examine the combined effects of contact size and sample thickness on van der Pauw measurements. In the four-point probe configuration, we examine the combined effects of varying the sample’s lateral dimensions, probe placement, and sample thickness. We derive an analytical expression to calculate correction factors that account, simultaneously, for finite sample size and asymmetric probe placement in four-point probe experiments.
