A comprehensive treatment of model-based fuzzy control systems
This volume offers full coverage of the systematic framework for the stability and design of nonlinear fuzzy control systems. Building on the Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model, authors Tanaka and Wang address a number of important issues in fuzzy control systems, including stability analysis, systematic design procedures, incorporation of performance specifications, numerical implementations, and practical applications.

Fuzzy Control Systems Design and Analysis: A Linear Matrix Inequality Approach

This paper deals with the quadratic stability conditions of fuzzy control systems that relax the existing conditions reported in the previous literatures. Two new conditions are proposed and shown to be useful in analyzing and designing fuzzy control systems. The first one employs the S-procedure to utilize information regarding the premise parts of the fuzzy systems. The next one enlarges the class of fuzzy control systems, whose stability is ensured by representing the interactions among the fuzzy subsystems in a single matrix and solving it by linear matrix inequality. The relationships between the suggested stability conditions and the conventional well-known stability conditions reported in the previous literatures are also discussed, and it is shown in a rigorous manner that the second condition of this paper includes the conventional conditions. Finally, some examples and simulation results are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the stability conditions.

New approaches to H∞ controller designs based on fuzzy observers for T-S fuzzy systems via LMI

Addresses the issue of stability of a fuzzy system described by fuzzy rules with singleton consequents. It first presents two canonical forms of a fuzzy system: a parametric expression and a state-space expression. A fuzzy system with singleton consequents is found to be a piecewise-polytopic-affine system. Then the paper gives stability theorems for a discrete-time system as well as for a continuous time system. It also gives a brief survey on the stability issues of fuzzy control systems.

On stability of fuzzy systems expressed by fuzzy rules with singleton consequents

This paper is concerned with the robust-stabilization problem of uncertain Markovian jump nonlinear systems (MJNSs) without mode observations via a fuzzy-control approach. The Takagi and Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model is employed to represent a nonlinear system with norm-bounded parameter uncertainties and Markovian jump parameters. The aim is to design a mode-independent fuzzy controller such that the closed-loop Markovian jump fuzzy system (MJFS) is robustly stochastically stable. Based on a stochastic Lyapunov function, a robust-stabilization condition using a mode-independent fuzzy controller is derived for the uncertain MJFS in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). A new improved LMI formulation is used to alleviate the interrelation between the stochastic Lyapunov matrix and the system matrices containing controller variables in the derivation process. Finally, a simulation example is presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed design method.

Mode-independent robust stabilization for uncertain Markovian jump nonlinear systems via fuzzy control

This paper presents a backward movement control of an articulated vehicle via a model-based fuzzy control technique. A nonlinear dynamic model of the articulated vehicle is represented by a Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model. The concept of parallel distributed compensation is employed to design a fuzzy controller from the Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model of the articulated vehicle. Stability of the designed fuzzy control system is guaranteed via Lyapunov approach. The stability conditions are characterized in terms of linear matrix inequalities since the stability analysis is reduced to a problem of finding a common Lyapunov function for a set of Lyapunov inequalities. Simulation results and experimental results show that the designed fuzzy controller effectively achieves the backward movement control of the articulated vehicle.
