Vibration analysis of functionally graded carbon nanotube reinforced composite thick plates with elastically restrained edges

The resonance characteristics of a two-span continuous beam traversed by moving high speed trains at a constant velocity is investigated, in which the continuous beam has uniform span length. Each span of the continuous beam is modeled as a Bernoulli-Euler beam and the moving trains are represented as a series of two degrees-of-freedom mass-springdamper systems at the axle locations. A method of modal analysis is proposed in this paper to investigate the vibration of two-span continuous beam. The effects of different influencing parameters, such as the velocities of moving trains, the damping ratios and the span lengths of the beam, on the dynamic response of the continuous beam are examined. The two-span continuous beam has two critical velocities causing two resonance responses, which is different from simple supported beam. The resonance condition of the two-span continuous beam is put forward which depends on the first and second natural frequency of the beam and the moving velocity.

Resonance characteristics of two-span continuous beam under moving high speed trains

This paper presents a geometrically nonlinear analysis of carbon nanotube (CNT) reinforced functionally graded composite plates with elastically restrained edges and internal supports. The plate considered is of thin-to-moderate thickness undergoing large deflection; hence, the first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT) and von Karman assumption are adopted. The governing equation to this problem is derived through the IMLS-Ritz method. The CNT-reinforced composite plates considered are: (i) uniformly distributed; and (ii) functionally graded distributions of CNT reinforcement, in which the material properties of CNT-reinforced composite plates are functionally graded in the thickness direction. Several example problems with different types of internal supports and elastic edge restraints are studied. Results for isotropic cases are presented for the purpose of possible verification of the published solutions reported in the literature.

A review of the superposition method for computing free vibration eigenvalues of elastic structures

In this paper shear deformable plate theory in combination with Element-Free Galerkin Method (EFGM) is used for free vibration analysis of nonhomogeneous moderately thick plates with point supports resting on a two-parameter elastic foundation. It is shown that the vibration results obtained by this method are in a very good agreement with the available literatures in spite of using low numbers of nodes which can be considered as an inconvenience in some other methods to reach a satisfactory accuracy. Also, applicability of the method is demonstrated by solving numerical examples for different values of homogeneity variation parameter, aspect ratio, thickness to length ratio, foundation parameters, various types of boundary conditions and different numbers of point support. The numerical results present valuable information for engineers and designers in various structural applications and also prove useful to use as benchmarks for further references.
