Presynaptic Effects of Botulinum Toxin Type A on the Neuronally Evoked Response of Albino and Pigmented Rabbit Iris Sphincter and Dilator Muscles
Hitoshi Ishikawa,Yoshihisa Mitsui,Takeshi Yoshitomi,Kimiyo Mashimo,Shigeru Aoki,Kazuo Mukuno,Kimiya Shimizu +6 more
TL;DR: Data indicated that botulinum A toxin may inhibit not only the acetylcholine release in the cholinergic nerve terminals, but also substance P release from the trigeminal nerve terminals of the rabbit iris sphincter muscle.
Journal ArticleDOI
Structure and function of the interphotoreceptor matrix surrounding retinal photoreceptor cells.
TL;DR: The present knowledge concerning the structure and function of the IPM under physiological and pathological conditions is described.
Journal ArticleDOI
Long noncoding RNAs coordinate functions between mitochondria and the nucleus.
TL;DR: Both nuclear- and mitochondrial DNA-encoded lncRNAs mediate an intense interCompartmental cross-talk, which opens a rich field for investigation of the mechanism underlying the intercompartmental coordination and the maintenance of whole cell homeostasis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Autoregulation of acetylcholine release from vagus nerve terminals through activation of muscarinic receptors in the dog trachea.
Yushi Ito,Takeshi Yoshitomi +1 more
TL;DR: It is shown that both pirenzepine and gallamine have dual actions on pre‐ and postjunctional muscarinic receptors in dog tracheal tissue and at low concentrations both agents potentiate excitatory neuro‐effector transmission, presumably due to enhancement of release of ACh from vagal nerve terminals through blockade of a negative auto‐regulatory process activated by endogenous ACh.
Journal ArticleDOI
Epidemiologic and Clinical Characteristics of Optic Neuritis in Japan.
Hitoshi Ishikawa,Takeshi Kezuka,Keigo Shikishima,Akiko Yamagami,Miki Hiraoka,Hideki Chuman,Makoto Nakamura,Keika Hoshi,Toshiaki Goseki,Kimiyo Mashimo,Osamu Mimura,Takeshi Yoshitomi,Keiko Tanaka,Jun Sugasawa,Takashi Fujikado,Shinji Okubo,Toshiki Watanabe,Keiichi Aomatsu,Hajime Aihara,Tone Suzuki,Satoshi Ueki,Atsushi Miki,Yasuhiro Shinmei,Masaru Takeuchi,Atsuki Fukusima,Masayuki Hata,Ryoji Yanai,Kohei Sonoda,Tadashi Senoo,Atsushi Mizota,Yutaka Kaneko,Motohiro Kiyosawa,Nobuhiko Ueda,Tomoaki Higashiyama,Kiyotaka Nakamagoe,Hisanao Akiyama +35 more
TL;DR: The present large-scale cohort study revealed the clinicoepidemiologic features of noninfectious optic neuritis in Japan and indicates that autoantibody measurement is useful for prompt diagnosis and proper management of optic neurritis that tends to become refractory.
