TL;DR: The analysis of molecular structures still is the main goal of classical NMR investigations, but it has been realised more recently that NMR spectroscopy also offers unique possibilities to study intermolecular interactions in solution.
Abstract: In the past decade, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy has gained an enormous impact on drug research, due to its extraordinary capacity to measure properties and observe changes at individual atomic positions even in very complex systems. While the analysis of molecular structures still is the main goal of classical NMR investigations, it has been realised more recently that NMR spectroscopy also offers unique possibilities to study intermolecular interactions in solution.
