Journal ArticleDOI
Endogenous non-retroviral RNA virus elements in mammalian genomes
Masayuki Horie,Tomoyuki Honda,Tomoyuki Honda,Yoshiyuki Suzuki,Yuki Kobayashi,Takuji Daito,Tatsuo Oshida,Kazuyoshi Ikuta,Patric Jern,Takashi Gojobori,John M. Coffin,Keizo Tomonaga,Keizo Tomonaga +12 more
TL;DR: These results provide the first evidence for endogenization of non-retroviral virus-derived elements in mammalian genomes and give novel insights not only into generation of endogenous elements, but also into a role of bornavirus as a source of genetic novelty in its host.
Journal ArticleDOI
Molecular phylogenetics of soricid shrews (Mammalia) based on mitochondrial cytochrome b gene sequences: with special reference to the Soricinae
Satoshi D. Ohdachi,M. Hasegawa,Masahiro A. Iwasa,Peter Vogel,Tatsuo Oshida,Liang-Kong Lin,Hisashi Abe +6 more
TL;DR: It could not be determined to which subfamily Anourosorex should be assigned: Soricinae, Crocidurinae or a new subfamily, and monophyly of Blarinini was not robust in the present data set.
Journal ArticleDOI
Phylogeography of the Russian flying squirrel (Pteromys volans): implication of refugia theory in arboreal small mammal of Eurasia.
TL;DR: A phylogeographical study of the Russian flying squirrel (Pteromys volans) was carried out using the complete mitochondrial (mt) cytochrome b gene sequences with special reference to the refugia theory for the arboreal traits of this species as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI
Phylogeography of Korean raccoon dogs: implications of peripheral isolation of a forest mammal in East Asia
S.-I. Kim,S.-K. Park,Hang Lee,Tatsuo Oshida,Junpei Kimura,Y.-J. Kim,S. T. Nguyen,M. Sashika,Mi-Sook Min +8 more
TL;DR: Haplotype distributions indicate postglacial expansion of raccoon dogs in the Korean Peninsula, andpicuous genetic differences between Japanese and continental populations might be the result of limited gene flow after geographical isolation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Phylogeography of the Japanese giant flying squirrel, Petaurista leucogenys (Rodentia: Sciuridae): implication of glacial refugia in an arboreal small mammal in the Japanese Islands
TL;DR: The complicated phylogeographical pattern of P. leucogenys populations originating from western Japan may have resulted from the long history of glaciations, and five major phylogroups may have originated from glacial refugia during the Late Pleistocene.
