Experimental investigations on the failure modes of ring-stiffened cylinders under external hydrostatic pressure

TL;DR: In this paper, the failure modes of ring-stiffened cylinder models subjected to external hydrostatic pressure were investigated, including shell yielding, local shell buckling between ring stiffeners and overall buckling of the shell together with the stiffeners.
Journal ArticleDOI

Ultimate strength formulation considering failure mode interactions of ring-stiffened cylinders subjected to hydrostatic pressure

TL;DR: In this article, the failure modes were inserted in the quadratic Merchant-Rankine formula and the knockdown factors were empirically derived to best fit the actual collapse pressure, which can predict the ultimate strength of ring-stiffened cylinders more accurately and consistently than other codified rules (PD5500, GL, ABS, API).
Journal ArticleDOI

Numerical studies of the failure modes of ring-stiffened cylinders under hydrostatic pressure

TL;DR: In this paper, the failure behavior of a ring-stiffened cylinder subjected to external hydrostatic pressure is investigated. And the failure mode parameter obtained from the characteristic pressure such as interframe buckling pressure known as local buckling, overall buckling and yield pressure are also examined through the collected data and shows a good correlation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Nonlinear analysis of inter-island RoRo under impact: effects of selected collision’s parameters on the crashworthy double-side structures

TL;DR: According to comparison with certain RoRo collision incident data, the fully integrated version of the Belytschko–Tsay emerges as the most similar in terms of the damage criterion of analysis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Dynamic lateral mass impact on steel stringer-stiffened cylinders

TL;DR: In this article, the impact responses of large-diameter, thin-walled steel stringer-stiffened cylinders subjected to low-velocity mass impact were investigated.
