PurposeThe purpose of the paper is to analyze the layer wise security issues in IoT and to obtain the effective security mechanism for jamming attack .Design/methodology/approachIn this study, the authors proposed a multi layer security approach for the detection of DDoS in IoT environment, which protects the smart devices from DDoS, this scheme also reduces the computational cost in the network under mobility condition.FindingsEven though many works have been done for the security of wireless sensor network (WSN), all works have focused on encryption which depends on the key management strategy. In this study, the authors proposed a multilayer approach to analyze the layer wise security issues and also proposed a threshold-based countermeasure (TBC) for replay attack in each layer.Originality/valueThe results indicate that the proposed algorithm lowers the computational costs and energy consumption than in modern schemes. Also, the proposed research work improves the scalability of sensor networks using the TBC.

A Multi-layer Security approach for DDoS detection in Internet of Things

Aim: To maximize the network lifetime using Fuzzy Based cluster head selection algorithm in comparison with LEACH algorithm. Materials and methods: Network Lifetime is computed with a dataset sample of size 40. The classification of nodes is performed by the Fuzzy algorithm of sample size (N=20), and the LEACH algorithm of sample size (N=20) with 100 nodes. Result and Discussion: The network lifetime of fuzzy algorithm is 81.76% when compared to LEACH algorithm with 72.64%. Significant difference in network lifetime (P=0.001) for fuzzy based cluster algorithm and (P=0.001) for LEACH algorithm. Conclusion: Within the limits of the study, Fuzzy algorithm performs better than LEACH algorithm in case of network lifetime.

Comparison of Fuzzy-based Cluster Head Selection Algorithm with LEACH Algorithm in Wireless Sensor Networks to Maximize Network Lifetime

One of the key challenges in Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is to minimize energy consumption by each sensor node and increase network lifetime. Sensor network consist of huge number battery powered sensor nodes. It is difficult to recharge these nodes. So, to achieve an appreciable network lifetime, energy consumption of the node should be minimum. By finding the energy efficient route for data transmission network lifetime can be maximized. Cluster based routing protocols are the standard approach for achieving efficient and scalable performance in WSN. Also, there are problem in some approaches such as in static WSN, in which sensor nodes transfer their data to static sink in a multi-hop manner which causes network partition problem known as „Hot Spot Problem‟ In case of WSN with mobile sink, as sink travels for data collection from CHs, the load on sink node increases which leads to increase in energy consumption of sink. In this paper a proposed approach is to overcome these problems. The proposed approach uses node mobility to solve these problems. In this approach, mobile sink is used with few mobile nodes. If these mobile nodes are efficiently mobilized then the hot spot problem, as well as sink load problem can be tackled. The movement of mobile nodes is decided on the basis of their distance from CHs. By using node mobility with mobile sink helps to increase the network lifetime and energy efficiency of the network.

Clustering Approach for Energy Efficient Wireless Sensor Network with Node Mobility

Sensor network is made up of a large number of sensor nodes for communication. Some nodes can work as a gateway which transmits data to the sink. These nodes are considered as a bottleneck in multi-hop networks because they send data collected from other nodes, and hence it drains their energy quickly. This problem is known as Hot Spot problem. So, for balancing the energy throughout the network, sink and node mobility can be used. A mobile sink could collect data without the need of gateway, and hence the problem of a bottleneck in the multi-hop network can be minimized. Along with the sink, sensor nodes also can be made mobile. Energy efficiency of WSN is achieved by using mobile sensors and mobile sink with enhanced coverage, and better channel capacity. There are various routing protocols to reduce energy consumption in a mobile WSN. This review paper﻿ mainly concentrates on the study of different protocols that are used for efficient energy consumption using the mobile sink and mobile sensor nodes.
