Journal ArticleDOI
Epidemiology, clinical characteristics, resistance, and treatment of infections by Candida auris .
Andrea Cortegiani,Giovanni Misseri,Teresa Fasciana,Anna Giammanco,Antonino Giarratano,Anuradha Chowdhary +5 more
TL;DR: An updated and comprehensive report of the global spread of C. auris, focusing on clinical and microbiological characteristics, mechanisms of virulence and antifungal resistance, and efficacy of available control, preventive, and therapeutic strategies is provided.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ongoing spread of colistin-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae in different wards of an acute general hospital, Italy, June to December 2011.
Caterina Mammina,Celestino Bonura,F. Di Bernardo,Aurora Aleo,Teresa Fasciana,Concetta Sodano,Maria Antonietta Saporito,Maria Stella Verde,Romano Tetamo,Daniela Maria Palma +9 more
TL;DR: Cross-transmission containment measures and intensification of staff and environmental hygiene could not stop the outbreak, and selective pressure and horizontal transmission probably contributed to emergence and spread of three different strains of colistin-resistant K. pneumoniae in the hospital.
Journal ArticleDOI
Global Assessment of the Activity of Tigecycline against Multidrug-Resistant Gram-Negative Pathogens between 2004 and 2014 as Part of the Tigecycline Evaluation and Surveillance Trial.
TL;DR: The results show that tigecycline retained in vitro activity against many MDR Gram-negative pathogens over the study period, while rates of MDR A. baumannii increased globally, highlighting the need for the continued monitoring of global multidrug resistance.
Journal ArticleDOI
An update of the evolving epidemic of blaKPC carrying Klebsiella pneumoniae in Sicily, Italy, 2014: Emergence of multiple Non-ST258 Clones
Celestino Bonura,Mario Giuffrè,Aurora Aleo,Teresa Fasciana,Francesca Di Bernardo,Tomaso Stampone,Anna Giammanco,Daniela Maria Palma,Caterina Mammina +8 more
TL;DR: Conurrent clonal expansion of some STs and lateral transmission of genetic resistance determinants are likely producing a thorough change of the KPC-Kp epidemiology in Palermo, Italy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Co-existence of virulence factors and antibiotic resistance in new Klebsiella pneumoniae clones emerging in south of Italy.
Teresa Fasciana,Bernardina Gentile,Maria Aquilina,Andrea Ciammaruconi,Chiara Mascarella,Anna Anselmo,Antonella Fortunato,Silvia Fillo,Giancarlo Petralito,Florigio Lista,Anna Giammanco +10 more
TL;DR: The data support the idea that an epidemiological change is ongoing in the Palermo area (Sicily, Italy) and revealed the co-existence of antibiotic resistance and virulence factors in CR-Kp isolates; this characteristic should be considered for future genomic surveillance studies.
