A battery box housing a battery is mounted between left and right side frames extending in a longitudinal direction of a vehicle body so that the battery box is offset to a left side of the vehicle body, and an intake duct and an exhaust duct for cooling air for cooling the battery are connected to an end of the battery box on a right side of the vehicle body. Therefore, it is possible not only to protect the battery between the left and right frames from a shock caused upon a side collision, but also to ensure a space for disposition of the intake duct and the exhaust duct while ensuring a volume of the battery box to the maximum. Moreover, the battery box is connected at its left and right ends to the left and right side frames.

An efficient thermal management system (100) that utilizes a single heat exchanger (133) is provided. A refrigeration subsystem (103) cools the heat exchanger (133). A first coolant loop (139) in thermal communication with the heat exchanger (133) is used to cool the energy storage system (137). A second coolant loop (151) corresponding to the HVAC subsystem (107) is also in thermal communication with the heat exchanger (133). Preferably a third coolant loop (109) corresponding to the drive motor cooling subsystem (101) is coupleable to the HVAC coolant loop (151), thus providing an efficient means of providing heat to the HVAC subsystem (107).

Electric vehicle thermal management system

A dual mode, thermal management system for use in a vehicle is provided. At a minimum, the system includes a first coolant loop in thermal communication with a battery system, a second coolant loop in thermal communication with at least one drive train component (e.g., electric motor, power electronics, inverter), and a dual mode valve system that provides means for selecting between a first mode where the two coolant loops operate in parallel, and a second mode where the two coolant loops operate in series.

The vent opening is disposed on a forward side of a vehicle with respect to the defroster opening. The center vent ducts open only in the vehicle compartment. In a bi-level mode, a third front passage on the downstream side of the evaporator extends upwardly in a straight line fashion.

A thermal conductive mechanism for a battery pack made up of a stack of a plurality of sub-battery modules each of which includes a plurality of battery cells arrayed thereon. The sub-battery modules each has opposed major surfaces and are laid to overlap each other in a direction perpendicular to the major surfaces. The thermal conductive mechanism is equipped with plates provided one for each of the sub-battery modules. Each of the plates has a given number of the battery cells disposed thereon and also has heat transfer surfaces extending in a planar direction of the plate. The heat transfer surfaces are placed in one of direct and indirect contact with the given number of the battery cells to achieve transfer of heat therebetween, thereby equalizing the temperature in each of the battery cells and also minimizing a difference in temperature among the battery cells.

CONSTITUTION: In an air-introducing device 20 of an air-conditioner for a vehicle the introduction of the air within a cabin or outside the cabin may be switched at an air inlet 14 of a scroll casing 11 where a fan 12 is stored, either of the air inside the cabin or the air outside the cabin can be switched to be introduced by mounting switching dumpers 26, 27 of spherical moon shape on the air suction port 14 of the scroll casing 11 by supporting shafts 24, 25 in a turnable manner at each end part, and turning the switching dumpers 26, 27 by the switching means. Because the switching dumpers 26, 27 is of spherical moon shape, the opening edge of an air-introducing port 23 looks like the shape of the air suction port 14, and this constitution eliminates the generation of the stagnation and turbulance of the intake air, reduces the air intake resistance, and reduces the air intake noise. The spiral housing has a suction opening (76), which opens out on the housing in the direction of the rotational axis. Several secondary blades (80) are located at positions corresponding to the main blades in the suction opening. The outer periphery (76a) of the suction opening is located on the outer side of the inner edge of the main blade. The main blade forms an end (71a) at the side of the suction opening, which faces the opening.
