A mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is dynamic in nature and is composed of wirelessly connected nodes that perform hop-by-hop routing without the help of any fixed infrastructure. One of the important requirements of a MANET is the efficiency of energy, which increases the lifetime of the network. Several techniques have been proposed by researchers to achieve this goal and one of them is clustering in MANETs that can help in providing an energy-efficient solution. Clustering involves the selection of cluster-heads (CHs) for each cluster and fewer CHs result in greater energy efficiency as these nodes drain more power than noncluster-heads. In the literature, several techniques are available for clustering by using optimization and evolutionary techniques that provide a single solution at a time. In this paper, we propose a multi-objective solution by using multi-objective particle swarm optimization (MOPSO) algorithm to optimize the number of clusters in an ad hoc network as well as energy dissipation in nodes in order to provide an energy-efficient solution and reduce the network traffic. In the proposed solution, inter-cluster and intra-cluster traffic is managed by the cluster-heads. The proposed algorithm takes into consideration the degree of nodes, transmission power, and battery power consumption of the mobile nodes. The main advantage of this method is that it provides a set of solutions at a time. These solutions are achieved through optimal Pareto front. We compare the results of the proposed approach with two other well-known clustering techniques; WCA and CLPSO-based clustering by using different performance metrics. We perform extensive simulations to show that the proposed approach is an effective approach for clustering in mobile ad hoc networks environment and performs better than the other two approaches.

Energy-efficient clustering in mobile ad-hoc networks using multi-objective particle swarm optimization

The Internet of Things (IoT), which can be regarded as an enhanced version of machine-to-machine communication technology, was proposed to realize intelligent thing-to-thing communications by utilizing the Internet connectivity. In the IoT, "things" are generally heterogeneous and resource constrained. In addition, such things are connected to each other over low-power and lossy networks. In this paper, we propose an inter-device authentication and session-key distribution system for devices with only encryption modules. In the proposed system, unlike existing sensor-network environments where the key distribution center distributes the key, each sensor node is involved with the generation of session keys. In addition, in the proposed scheme, the performance is improved so that the authenticated device can calculate the session key in advance. The proposed mutual authentication and session-key distribution system can withstand replay attacks, man-in-the-middle attacks, and wiretapped secret-key attacks.

Mutual Authentication Scheme in Secure Internet of Things Technology for Comfortable Lifestyle.

Recently in the connected digital world, targeted attack has become one of the most serious threats to conventional computing systems. Advanced persistent threat (APT) is currently one of the most important threats considering the information security concept. APT persistently collects data from a specific target by exploiting vulnerabilities using diverse attack techniques. Many researchers have contributed to find approaches and solutions to fight against network intrusion and malicious software. However, only a few of these solutions are particularly focused on APT. In this paper, we introduce a structured study on semantic-aware work to find potential contributions that analyze and detect APT in details. We propose modeling phase that discusses the typical steps in APT attacks to collect the desired information by attackers. Our research explores social network and web infrastructure exploitation as well as communication protocols and much more for future networks and communications. The paper also includes some recent Zero-day attacks, use case scenarios and cyber trends in southeastern countries. To overcome these challenges and attacks, we introduce a detailed comprehensive literature evaluation scheme that classifies and provides countermeasures of APT attack behavior. Furthermore, we discuss future research direction of APT defense framework of next-generation threat life cycle.

A comprehensive study on APT attacks and countermeasures for future networks and communications: challenges and solutions

As Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) become increasingly popular, it is necessary to require Intrusion Detection System (IDS) available to detect internal malicious sensor nodes. Because sensor nodes have limited capabilities in terms of their computation, communication, and energy, selecting the profitable detection strategy for lowering resources consumption determines whether the IDS can be used practically. In this paper, we adopt the distributed-centralized network in which each sensor node has equipped an IDS agent, but only the IDS agent resided in the Cluster Head (CH) with sufficient energy will launch. Then, we apply the signaling game to construct an Intrusion Detection Game modeling the interactions between a malicious sensor node and a CH-IDS agent, and seek its equilibriums for the optimal detection strategy. We illustrate the stage Intrusion Detection Game at an individual time slot in aspects of its player's utilities, pure-strategy Bayesian-Nash equilibrium (BNE) and mixed-strategy BNE. Under these BNEs the CH-IDS agent is not always on the Defend strategy, as a result, the power of CH can be saved. As the game evolves, we develop the stage Intrusion Detection Game into a multi-stage dynamic Intrusion Detection Game in which, based on Bayesian rules, the beliefs on the malicious sensor node can be updated. Upon the current belief and the Perfect Bayesian equilibrium (PBE), the best response strategy for the CH-IDS agent can be gained. Afterward, we propose an intrusion detection mechanism and corresponding algorithm. We also study the properties of the multi-stage dynamic Intrusion Detection Game by simulations. The simulation results have shown the effectiveness of the proposed game, thus, the CH-IDS agents are able to select their optimal strategies to defend the malicious sensor nodes' Attack action.
