Journal ArticleDOI

Impaired odor perception in tank cleaners.

TL;DR: The tank cleaners displayed an odor deficit analogous to the hearing loss known as "loudness recruitment," ie, normal perception of strong stimuli but impaired perception of weak stimuli, which seems, in tank cleaners, to be associated with occupational exposure to oil vapor.
Journal ArticleDOI

A comparison of odor perception in smokers, nonsmokers, and passive smokers*

TL;DR: The olfactory perception in matched groups of 26 smokers, 26 nonsmokers, and 15 passive smokers was examined psychophysically with two substances, n-butane and pyridine, and there is an indication of a perceptual deficit similar to loudness recruitment.
Journal ArticleDOI

A longitudinal study of air contaminants in a newly built preschool

TL;DR: In this article, the air quality in a newly built preschool was investigated in a longitudinal study, and the influence of the ventilation system (81% -91% recirculation of return air) on contaminant concentrations was studied.
Journal ArticleDOI

Loudness (or annoyance) summation of combined community noises

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors study how the loudness of constituents in pairs of community noises combines into total annoyance, i.e., the total loudness equals the loudest of the component noises when heard alone.
Journal ArticleDOI

Volatile organic compounds from used building materials in a simulated chamber study

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used gas chromatography and mass spectrometry to identify volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the room air of a seven-year-old preschool building.
