Journal ArticleDOI

Growth and trace metal absorption by Phragmites australis in wetlands constructed for landfill leachate treatment

TL;DR: In this article, the authors found that the roots acted as effective filters for transport of metals to the shoots and rhizomes, and the rhizosphere may provide a particularly effective, locally oxidized environment for metal precipitation and adsorption outside the root.
Journal ArticleDOI

Oxidation States and Fractionation of Plaque Iron on Roots of Common Reeds

TL;DR: In this article, the results indicated that dormant roots contained 6, 890, 180, and 140 μg Fe g -1 fresh root weight in salt, acid, reductant extractable, and residual fractions, respectively.
