Climate change impacts on groundwater and dependent ecosystems
Bjørn Kløve,Pertti Ala-aho,Guillaume Bertrand,Jason J. Gurdak,Hans Kupfersberger,Jens Kværner,Timo Muotka,Timo Muotka,Heikki Mykrä,Elena Preda,Pekka M. Rossi,Cintia Bertacchi Uvo,Elzie M. Velasco,Manuel Pulido-Velazquez +13 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a review examines climate change effects on groundwater and dependent ecosystems, focusing on the impacts of changes to groundwater on GDE biodiversity and future threats posed by climate change.
Journal ArticleDOI
Distance decay of similarity in freshwater communities: do macro‐ and microorganisms follow the same rules?
TL;DR: The results suggest that patterns between macro- and microorganisms are not fundamentally different, but the level of environmental control varies according to dispersal ability.
Journal ArticleDOI
Scale‐related patterns in the spatial and environmental components of stream macroinvertebrate assemblage variation
TL;DR: The authors examined the relative contributions of spatial gradients and local environmental conditions to macroinvertebrate assemblages of boreal headwater streams at three hierarchical extents: bioregion, ecoregion and drainage system.
Journal ArticleDOI
Determinants of macroinvertebrate diversity in headwater streams: regional and local influences
TL;DR: In this article, the authors studied the relationship among RSR, β-diversity, LSR and local environmental variables in 120 headwater streams in Finland and found that the major role of RSR in setting the upper limit to LSR suggests that macroinvertebrate assemblages of boreal headwater stream are unsaturated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Groundwater dependent ecosystems : Part I: Hydroecological status and trends
Bjørn Kløve,Pertti Ala-aho,Guillaume Bertrand,Zuzana Boukalova,Ali Ertürk,Nico Goldscheider,Jari Ilmonen,Nusret Karakaya,Hans Kupfersberger,Jens Kvœrner,Angela Lundberg,Marta Mileusnić,Agnieszka Moszczynska,Timo Muotka,Elena Preda,Pekka M. Rossi,Dmytro Siergieiev,Josef Šimek,Przemysław Wachniew,Vadineanu Angheluta,Anders Widerlund +20 more
TL;DR: In this article, the role of groundwater in surface ecosystems is not fully understood and the status and baseline of different types of groundwater dependent ecosystems are discussed, with particular emphasis on past evidence of environmental change and potential thresholds and threats in GDEs in various parts of Europe with different land use, climate and geology.
