Journal ArticleDOI

Characterization of pURB500 from the archaeon Methanococcus maripaludis and construction of a shuttle vector.

TL;DR: The complete sequence of the 8,285-bp plasmid pURB500 from Methanococcus maripaludis C5 was determined and sequence analysis identified 18 open reading frames as well as two regions of potential iterons and complex secondary structures.
Journal ArticleDOI

Incorporation of Exogenous Purines and Pyrimidines by Methanococcus voltae and Isolation of Analog-Resistant Mutants.

TL;DR: In addition to demonstrating cross resistance to several of the analogs, four of these mutants lost the ability to incorporate exogenous bases, and appeared to be mutations in the salvage pathways for purines and pyrimidines.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cloning and phylogenetic analysis of the genes encoding acetohydroxyacid synthase from the archaeon Methanococcus aeolicus.

TL;DR: Phylogenetic analysis of the deduced amino acid sequence of ilvB showed a close relationship between the AHAS of Bacteria and Archaea, to the exclusion of other enzymes in this family, including pyruvate oxidase, glyoxylate carboligase, pyruVate decarboxylase, and the acetolactate synthase found in fermentative Bacteria.
Journal ArticleDOI

Characterization of guanine and hypoxanthine phosphoribosyltransferases in Methanococcus voltae.

TL;DR: Results suggest that analog resistance was acquired by the loss of PRTase activity in Methanococcus voltae, and two mutants resistant to both 8-azaguanine and8-azahypoxanthine lacked activity for both guanine and hypoxanthines.
