Radon Anomaly: A Possible Precursor of the 1978 Izu-Oshima-kinkai Earthquake.

TL;DR: Precursory changes in the radon concentration of groundwater were observed prior to the Izu-Oshima-kinkai earthquake (magnitude 7.0) 14 January 1978 and after the earthquake, a remarkable increase in theRadon concentration occurred.
Journal ArticleDOI

Attenuation of Short Period P Waves in the Mantle

TL;DR: In this paper, a geophone was used to study the attenuation of seismic waves in the mantle from distant deep earthquakes with a geophone buried under the Mohorovicic discontinuity, and the difference in the spectra of P waves recorded simultaneously at Tsukuba and at Matsushiro indicates the possibility of the above mentioned masking effect of a crust.
Journal ArticleDOI

Seismographic observation at the bottom of the Central Basin Fault of the Philippine Sea

TL;DR: The Central Basin Fault of the Philippine Sea is proposed as an extinct mid-oceanic ridge and seems to be a key to the development of the floor of the Philippines Sea as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI

Apparent velocity measurements on an oceanic lithosphere

TL;DR: A direct measurement of apparent velocities for oceanic paths was made with an array of sensitive ocean bottom seismographs by recording waves from shallow earthquakes which occurred in the area close to trench axes and which were accurately located by land seismological network in Japan.
