Applying the Rasch Model: Fundamental Measurement in the Human Sciences

TL;DR: This volume contends that Rasch measurement is the model of choice because it is the closest to realizing the sort of objective fundamental measurement so long revered in the physical sciences.
Journal ArticleDOI

An investigation of computer anxiety by gender and grade

TL;DR: The present study has used the computer-anxiety index (CAIN), a scale previously developed by Simonson, Maurer, Montag-Torardi, and Whitaker, to test its unidimensionality with the view to arrive at a scale that provides a unidimensional measure, hence avoiding the conceptual confusion of multidimensionsality.

Validity and assessment: a Rasch measurement perspective

TL;DR: The authors argue that the Rasch model, unlike the other models generally referred to as IRT models, and those that fall into the tradition of True Score models, encompasses a set of rigourous prescriptions for what scientific measurement would be like if it were to be achieved in the social sciences.
Journal ArticleDOI

Socioeconomic thresholds that affect use of customary fisheries management tools.

TL;DR: The results suggest that customary management institutions are not resilient to factors such as population growth and economic modernization, and cross-scale institutional arrangements such as networks and bridging organizations may be required to help filter the impacts of socioeconomic transformations.
