In today’s world of environmental strain, wastewater treatment has become a, more or less, conventional application of flotation—as for instance, in the oil, food, or chemical industries, and in potable water treatment. In this paper, different flotation methods (such as ion, adsorbing colloid, and adsorptive flotation, including biosorption) and techniques will be reviewed; and, in order to explain them further, several applications of these from the laboratory (General and Inorganic Chemical Technology) at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece (AUTh) will be presented and analyzed, with the main focus on sustainability. The application of flotation as a separation process, when applied in pollution control or during water treatment, was often criticized due to the possible toxicity of the applied collectors; however, the use of biosurfactants may alleviate this concern and enhance its further acceptability.

In our previous study, we experimentally studied the effects of changes in the viscosity of the displaced more-viscous liquid by instantaneous reactions on miscible viscous fingering pattern [Y. Nagatsu, K. Matsuda, Y. Kato, and Y. Tada, “Experimental study on miscible viscous fingering involving viscosity changes induced by variations in chemical species concentrations due to chemical reactions,” J. Fluid Mech. 571, 475 (2007)]. In the present study, experiments have been performed on the miscible viscous fingering involving changes in the viscosity of the displacing less-viscous liquid by instantaneous reactions in a radial Hele-Shaw cell. We have found that the shielding effect is suppressed and the fingers are widened when the viscosity is increased. As a result, the reaction makes the fingering pattern denser. Miscible viscous fingering involving viscosity changes of the displacing fluid by chemical reactions

The consumption of noni fruits has been linked to several health benefits, many of which are attributed to scopoletin, alizarin and rutin that are present in the fruits However, there is no report on optimized high hydrostatic pressure (HHP) extraction of noni fruits In this study, the effects of ethanol concentration, pressure and time were evaluated individually on the extraction yields of bioactive compounds from noni fruits The optimum extraction condition was then investigated to maximize the yields using response surface methodology with a Box-Behnken Design The extraction pressure and ethanol concentration were the most statistically significant variables in obtaining high extraction yields The optimal HHP extraction condition at the highest desirability (> 0998) for simultaneous extraction of scopoletin, alizarin and rutin was as follows: pressure 544 MPa, time 15 min and ethanol concentration 65%, which gave the maximum yields of 824, 772 and 822% for scopoletin, alizarin and rutin, respectively All bioactive compounds showed the positive linear and negative quadratic effects of pressure, the negative linear and negative quadratic effects of ethanol concentration, and the negative interaction effect between pressure and ethanol concentration on extraction yields This study highlights the applicability of HHP in extracting bioactive compounds from noni fruits, taking advantage of high yield, extraction time saving and reduced solvent volume at room temperature

Optimization of high hydrostatic pressure extraction of bioactive compounds from noni fruits

Cattle farms produce waste which consisted of cow excrement in the form of solid, liquid, gas or cattle feed residual. Utilization of cow manure waste into organic compost requires proper processing technology which includes the technology of solid manure pulverizing and the technology of mixing raw materials. This research focuses on designing a cattle dung waste pulverizer. The methods used are numerical calculations, simulations using the Fusion 360 software, and fabrication based on Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA). The main parts of the design include pulverizer, engine frame, cover (input and output hoppers), diesel motor, transmission belt and pulley. The safety factor obtained for the frame section was 4,645, for the cover section was 11.3, and for the counter section was 2,009 with assumptions of uniform load distribution of 20000 N. The power required for the design was 6.6 HP. The cattle dung waste pulverizer was built and tested using a diesel motor with a maximum power of 13 HP. The cattle dung waste pulverizer's capacity was 1500 kg/hour.

The placement of outdoor fitness equipment at tourist attractions is one of the attractions for tourists. Besides that, it can also be used as a means of health socialization for the community in public places. The elliptical trainer type air walker is a popular fitness tool because it is easy to use and has a small risk of injury. Elliptical trainer has a working principle like a walking person where movement is influenced by the force of the hand and leg movements. The design of an elliptical trainer fitness equipment that will be placed in a public place needs to be done to get a good level of security. This article discusses the design of an elliptical trainer device that is safe to place outdoors. The design process uses the Solidworks 2017a application. The elliptical trainer is divided into 4 parts, namely the main frame, drive shaft, hand handle, and leg handle. The manufacturing process is carried out based on Design Manufacture and Assembly and machinery to reduce the risk of manufacturing failure and make it easier to work on. The result of the elliptical trainer design has dimensions of 2,500 x 1,800 x 1,000 mm. The main frame has a safety factor of 3 with a displacement of 8,524e-7 mm.

Surfactants are essential in the pulp recovery process for the removal of ink on paper to be recycled. In order to create a “green” surfactant, seed oil was extracted from Morinda citrifolia L. by Soxhlet extraction for 4–8 h and its composition evaluated by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The total ion chromatogram (TIC) of fatty acids of Morinda citrifolia L. (FAMC) indicated that extraction yields the largest amount of unsaturated fatty acids (UFA), specifically C19H34O2 and C21H38O2, at 6 h. All FAMC fractions were evaluated for their suitability as a surfactant for deinking flotation. FAMC isolated after 6 h of extraction yields fatty acids that are the most suitable surfactants, as the fraction consists of mostly unsaturated fatty acids that show good interactions with the structure of common ink molecules. Our results show that the performance of the FAMC taken after 6 h of extraction approaches that of a synthetic surfactant (SS). The appropriate viscous force for deinking flotation was found to be 1.5–2.0 × 10−4 mg/mm s2 when the synthetic surfactant is used compared to 1.0–1.5 × 10−4 mg/mm s2 for FAMC. The higher intermolecular bonding strength in the synthetic surfactant-ink particle system requires higher viscous force.

The lack of rainfall and the absence of catchment areas are the main factors of the lack of water in Puron Village. Making biopori becomes solutive because it is useful for water absorption, reducing standing water, composting containers, and fertilizing the soil. Artificial biopores are made by making holes in the ground using tools such as crowbars or using ground drilling machines. The use of aids model adapted to the drill bit based on the state of the soil contour. This research is focused on classifying drill bits and redesigning which is in accordance with the condition of the soil environment in Puron Village, Bulu District, Sukoharjo Regency. So that biopori holes can be created more effectively and efficiently. The research method was carried out through the classification of tool drill bits through the house of quality product (HOQ) and redesign using Autodesk Fusion 360 software application. It was found that the design with a screw drill model with a pointed spiral has a high product quality value and can applied in puron Village. The design of the drill bit by adjusting the contours of the Puron Village can make a 100 mm diameter biopori hole. The design specifications of the drill bit with steel cast with 12 spiral plates with a length of 1300 mm with a diameter of 115 mm can be driven with a 10 HP engine. The design results have maximum stress, displacement, reaction force and strain of 3.62 MPa, 0.00081 mm, 0.35 N, and 0.000015.

Implementation of Automatic Dust Detector on Dust Suppression System on Transfer Tower 0 In Paiton 9 Power Plants

Experimental research has been conducted on the effect of ignition timings on the characteristics and performance of gasohol engines such as power, torque, specific fuel consumption, and thermal efficiency. The fuel used in this research is pure gasoline and a mixture of 50% bioethanol (BE50). The results show that the ignition timing that gives the maximum effect occurs at the top and bottom dead points of 9 degrees for gasoline and 12 degrees for BE50 fuel. Furthermore, the maximum power is obtained at 6,500 rpm, and at an ignition time of 12 degrees BTDC the maximum power generated is 4.63 hp, while for an ignition time of 9 degrees BTDC the power generated is 3.38 hp which occurs at 6500 rpm. These results indicate that there is an increase in power of 6.4%. Moreover, the results also show that for optimal gasoline conditions, the amount of energy consumed at an engine speed of 7000 rpm is around 15705.78 kcal/hour, and for BE-50 it is around 12582.03 kcal/hour, where there is a reduction of about 25.44 %. However, in general, it can be seen that during optimal ignition, there is a saving in fuel consumption in the gasoline-BE50 mixture, while at the same time producing a fairly large thermal efficiency. These results indicate that BE50 has the potential to be used as an alternative fuel in small gasoline engines.
