A method to manufacture acryloxypropylsilane to a high degree of purity is achieved by hydrosilation of (A) allyl acrylate or allyl methacrylate by (B) a hydrosilane compound, using (C) a platinum-containing compound as the catalyst and (D) an organic phosphorus compound as the promoter. The acryloxypropylsilane product is expressed by General Formula I CH.sub.2 ═CR.sup.1 COOCH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 SiR.sup.2.sub.n R 3 3-n (Formula I) where R 1 represents a hydrogen or methyl group, R 2 represents a hydrolyzable group, R 3 represents an aryl, alkenyl or aryl group of carbon number 1-12, and n is 0, 1, 2, or 3.

Method for manufacturing acryloxypropysilane

An improved process is provided for the preparation of siloxane-oxyalkylene copolymers by a solventless process via hydrosilation of oxyethylene-rich polyethers in the presence of carboxylic acids or carboxylic acid salts as a catalyst modifier. The use of a carboxylic acid or salt prevents acetal formation through the hydroxyl groups of the polyether and/or copolymer. The use of solvent, acetal treatment and solvent stripping steps of the conventional processes are eliminated and accordingly, environmental as well as economic benefits are achieved.

Process for the preparation of siloxane-oxyalkylene copolymers

Tetraalkylsilane compounds are produced by contacting an admixture comprising (A) at least one alkylsilane selected from the group consisting of (i) a monoalkylsilane having the formula R--Si--H3, (ii) a dialkylsilane having the formula R--SiH2 --R1, (iii) a trialkylsilane having the formula R--SiH--(R1)2, and mixtures thereof, wherein R and R1 each represent an alkyl radical of from one to 20 carbon atoms per molecule, and (B) at least one alpha olefin containing from two to about 20 carbon atoms per molecule, under an inert atmosphere with an oxygenated, platinum-containing catalyst in which the platinum catalyst is selected from the group consisting of (i) a platinum catalyst having a basicity substantially equal to or less than that provided by a platinum-containing catalyst having a triphenylphosphine ligand, or (ii) a heterogeneous platinum-containing catalyst, under hydrosilylation conditions. The platinum-containing catalyst can be oxygenated prior to use in the hydrosilylation process or by interrupting the hydrosilylation process and contacting the catalyst with an oxygen-containing gas prior to resuming the hydrosilylation process.
