Condensation reactions of 1,1"-diacetylferrocene with different heteroaromatic amines such as, 2-amino-1,3,4-thiadiazole, 5-aminotetrazole and 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole to form unsymmetrically 1,1′-disubstituted ferrocenes have been studied. The obtained compounds have been further investigated for their liganding and biological properties upon chelation with Co(II), Cu(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II) metal ions. The synthesized compounds have been characterized by physical, spectral and analytical data and have been screened against pathogenic bacterial strains e.g., Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus, showing moderate activity as antibacterials in vitro.

Some new asymmetric 1,1′-disubstituted ferrocene-derived Schiff-bases have been prepared and used as ligands in the preparation of their Co(II), Cu(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II) metal chelates. These synthesized ligands and their metal chelates have been characterized by their physical, analytical and spectral data. These have also been used for screening against pathogenic bacterial species, e.g. Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Klebsiella pneumonae and have been found to be a novel class of organometallic-based antibacterials. Synthesis, characterization, coordination and antibacterial properties of novel asymmetric 1,1′-disubstituted ferrocene-derived Schiff-base ligands and their Co(II), Cu(II) Ni(II) and Zn(II) complexes

Schiff bases derived from oxaldiamide/oxalylhydrazine and pyrrol-2-carbaldehyde, or salicylaldehyde respectively, as well as their Zn(II) complexes have been prepared and tested as antibacterial agents. These Schiff bases function as tetradentate ligands, forming octahedral Zn(II) complexes. The ketonic form for the diamide derived Schiff base and the enolic form of the hydrazide derived Schiff base were the preferred tautomers for coordination of the metal ions. The title compounds and their Zn(II) derivatives were evaluated for antibacterial activity against several bacterial strains which easily develop resistance to classical antibiotics, such as Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Some of them showed promising biological activity in inhibiting the growth of such organisms.

Antibacterial Schiff bases of oxalyl-hydrazine/diamide incorporating pyrrolyl and salicylyl moieties and of their zinc(II) complexes.

Two antibacterial and antifungal ferrocene incorporated compounds have been synthesized, characterized and screened for their in vitro antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella typhi, Shigella dysenteriae, Bacillus cereus, Corynebacterium diphtheriae, Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes bacterial strains and for in vitro antifungal activity against Trichophyton longifusus, Candida albicans, Aspergillus flavus, Microsporum canis, Fusarium solani and Candida glaberata. Results show that these compounds have significant activity against tested bacterial and fungal strains and thus introduce a novel class of ferrocene incorporating antibacterial and antifungal compounds.
