Prediction of compressive strength of geopolymer concrete using machine learning techniques

This paper presents an innovative approach towards the development of a green concrete. The geopolymer is an environmentally friendly construction/repairing material. In addition, glass fibers are helpful to influence the strength properties and to reduce hair line cracks and bleeding in concrete. This study is based on the use of fly ash and glass fibers as a partial replacement of cement and, subsequently, its effect on compressive strength and split tensile strength of concrete. The geopolymer is manufactured after the process of geopolymerization between class F fly ash and alkali activator fluid (sodium silicate and sodium hydroxide). In geopolymer concretes (GPC), an inorganic polymer called aluminosilicate will act as a binder, the same as conventional concrete has Portland cement (OPC)-generated C-S-H gel. The glass fibers are added in the ratios of 3%, 6%, and 10% by weight of cement. To check the effect of geopolymer and glass fibers on compressive strength and split tensile strength of concrete, concrete cubes of size 150 × 150 × 150 mm and concrete cylinders of size 150 × 300 mm with or without geopolymer and glass fibers were casted and cured for 7, 14, 21, and 28 days. The compressive strength and split tensile strength of all concrete cubes and cylinders were determined by compression testing machine. The findings of the research study revealed that concrete having geopolymer and glass fibers used as a partial replacement of cement showed lesser strength as compared to conventional concrete. Concrete having glass fibers showed reduced workability and more segregation as compared to geopolymer concrete and normal concrete. However, the concrete made either with geopolymer or glass fibers is economical as compared to conventional concrete.

An Investigation of Mechanical Properties of Fly Ash Based Geopolymer and Glass Fibers Concrete

Beton merupakan salah satu material yang paling banyak digunakan untuk infrastruktur, tetapi menggunakan semen sebagai bahan dasar. Proses produksi semen akan menghasilkan gas CO 2 yang dapat meningkatkan pemanasan global. Untuk mengatasi masalah tersebut, sudah seharusnya mencari bahan pengganti sebagai bahan pengikat untuk membuat beton. Bahan pengganti semen yang mengandung silika dan alumina akan berperan penting untuk mengendalikan masalah tersebut . Fly ash merupakan limbah dari pembakaran batu bara yang memiliki sifat pozzolanic. Studi literatur ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh rasio alkali Na 2 SiO 3 /NaOH, molaritas NaOH, suhu dan waktu curing, umur beton pada beton geopolimer dengan bahan dasar 100% fly ash terhadap nilai kuat tekan. Rasio alkali Na 2 SiO 3 /NaOH sebesar 2,5 yang menghasilkan nilai kuat tekan yang optimal, sedangkan semakin besar molaritas NaOH akan menghasilkan kekuatan yang meningkat tetapi akan mempercepat ikat awal.K uat tekan beton geopolimer yang di curing akan semakin meningkat seiring dengan bertambahnya suhu curing hingga 80 0 C, setelah melewati 80 0 C persentasekenaikan kuat tekan beton pada penelitian ini mengalami penurunan. Selain itu, waktu curing efektif diperoleh pada waktu 24 jam .Kekuatan tekan beton juga semakin meningkat seiring dengan bertambahnya umur beton, peningkatan efektif pada umur beton 7 hari.

Around 120 million tone of fly ash get accumulated every year at the thermal power stations in India. Similarly aggregate crusher units produce enormous quantities of stone dust, a waste product, produced during crushing of rubble. Due to scarcity of land disposal becomes a serious problem. Because of the growing concern with environmental issues and increasing interest in conservation of energy and resources, every country has to face the challenging problem that how to use or dispose this by-product within the framework of its economic structure. Due to this the fly ash is used as ingredients in concrete which enhance the properties of concrete and utilization of fly ash is helpful for consumption. In this study the alkaline solution of sodium silicate and sodium hydroxide is mixed with processed fly ash to become geopolymer concrete.
