A new single-PFTFN based lossless grounded inductance simulation circuit has been presented. The proposed circuit employs a single PFTFN along with four resistors and a single capacitor and realises a lossless grounded inductance subject to the fulfillment of only one realization condition. Some sample results of circuits realized with the new simulated inductor using existing CMOS FTFN implementation have been given to demonstrate the workability of the new circuit.

New grounded simulated inductance circuit using a single PFTFN

A novel CMOS implementation of a four-terminal floating nullor (FTFN) is proposed. The presented FTFN circuit is based on two translinear cells and cascode current mirrors. It provides an alternative solution to differential amplifier-based FTFN circuits. Simulation results show that the proposed circuit is quite suitable for wideband, accurate and wide dynamic range current-mode signal processing. The feasibility of the circuit is tested on a current-mode bandpass filter structure.

CMOS FTFN realisation based on translinear cells

Operational amplifiers are important building blocks for analog circuit design. Unfortunately, their limited performance such as bandwidth, slew-rate etc. leads the analog designer to search other possibilites and other building blocks. As a result, new current-mode active building blocks such as operational transconductance amplifiers (OTA), second generation current conveyors (CCII), current-feedback op- amps (CFOA), four terminal floating nullors (FTFN), differential voltage current conveyor (DVCC), differential difference current conveyor (DDCC), third-generation current- conveyor (CCIII), dual X current conveyors (DXCCII), current controlled current conveyors (CCCII) etc. received considerable attention due to their larger dynamic range and wider bandwidth. Employing these new active elements for analog design and using CMOS technology for implementation the circuit designers obtained new possibilites to solve their problems. This work covers new advances and possibilities in the related research area including application on communication, measurement and RF systems.

New Advances and Possibilities in Active Circuit Design

This study presents a new complementary metal–oxide–semiconductor (CMOS) structure for a fully balanced four-terminal floating nullor (FBFTFN) which is suitable for ultra-low-voltage and low-power applications. This structure employs a bulk-driven quasi-floating-gate (BD-QFG) metal–oxide–semiconductor transistor technique to provide the capability of ultra-low-voltage, low-power operations as well as extended input voltage range. The functionality of the proposed circuits is demonstrated through simulations using SPICE and TSMC 0.18 µm n-well CMOS technology with supply voltage of 0.5 V and dissipation power of 9.4 µW. To confirm the attractive features of the proposed circuit, the fully balanced filters such as band-pass Sallen–Key filter, voltage-mode universal biquadratic filter and current-mode sixth-order low-pass filter using proposed BD-QFG FBFTFN as active elements have been designed.
