Road traffic noise—The influence of the road surface and its characterization

Ulf Sandberg
- 01 Jan 1987 -
TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that the road surface type and conditions may influence the traffic noise by up to 11 dB(A) for free-flowing traffic. But the authors also pointed out that the effect of road surface on traffic noise is complicated and it is very difficult to generalize any simple relations.

Road surface influence on tire/road noise--1

TL;DR: In this article, the surface characteristics of roads are now known as the main factors influencing car tire/road noise in order to harmonize safety and environmental requirements and also to define a reference surface for measurement and regulation purposes, a better knowledge of the noise-relevant surface characteristics is required.
