Journal Article
Low-dose chemotherapy combined with an antiangiogenic drug reduces human glioma growth in vivo.
Lorenzo Bello,Giorgio Carrabba,Carlo Giussani,Valeria Lucini,Francesca Cerutti,Francesco Scaglione,Julien Landré,Mauro Pluderi,Giustino Tomei,Roberto Villani,Rona S. Carroll,Peter McL. Black,Andreas Bikfalvi +12 more
TL;DR: Low-dose chemotherapy in combination with PEX can be successfully used against human malignant glioma in vivo, and this regimen was associated with no side effects, marked decrease in tumor volume, vascularity, and proliferative index, and an increased apoptosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
The melatonin receptor in the human brain: cloning experiments and distribution studies.
Cristina Mazzucchelli,Marilou Pannacci,Romolo Nonno,Valeria Lucini,Franco Fraschini,Bojidar Stankov +5 more
TL;DR: In situ hybridization using an antisense cRNA-probe demonstrated that the melatonin receptor mRNA is localized in the cerebellar granule cells, and a quite widespread distribution of the transcript, although expressed at very low levels.
Journal Article
Simultaneous inhibition of glioma angiogenesis, cell proliferation, and invasion by a naturally occurring fragment of human metalloproteinase-2.
Lorenzo Bello,Valeria Lucini,Giorgio Carrabba,Carlo Giussani,Marcelle Machluf,Mauro Pluderi,Demetrios C. Nikas,Jianping Zhang,Giustino Tomei,Roberto Villani,Rona S. Carroll,Andreas Bikfalvi,Peter McL. Black +12 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that a fragment derived from the autocatalytic digestion of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2, called PEX, acts simultaneously as an inhibitor of glioma angiogenesis, cell proliferation, and migration.
Journal ArticleDOI
Twenty-Four-Hour Melatonin and Cortisol Plasma Levels in Relation to Timing of Cluster Headache:
TL;DR: The cyclic recurrence of cluster periods and the regular timing of headache occurrence in cluster headache (CH) induced us to study the circadian secretion of melatonin and cortisol in 12 patients with episodic CH, and compare them with 7 age- and sex-matched healthy controls.
Journal ArticleDOI
2-[N-Acylamino(C1-C3)alkyl]indoles as MT1 melatonin receptor partial agonists, antagonists, and putative inverse agonists.
Gilberto Spadoni,Cesarino Balsamini,Annalida Bedini,Giuseppe Diamantini,B. Di Giacomo,A. Tontini,Giorgio Tarzia,Marco Mor,Pier Vincenzo Plazzi,Silvia Rivara,Romolo Nonno,Marilou Pannacci,Valeria Lucini,Franco Fraschini,Bojidar Stankov +14 more
TL;DR: Structural-activity relationship considerations indicate that N-[1-aryl-2-(4-methoxy-1H-indol-2-yl)(C1-C2)alkyl]alkanamides represent a lead structure for this type of ligands.
