Journal ArticleDOI
PBeL—A Novel Problem-Based (e-)Learning for Geomatics Students
TL;DR: As e-learning and PBL must be combined and integrated nowadays, the new term PBeL (Problem-Based e-Learning) is proposed and introduced in this paper and background information on the theory and the LBS2ITS project are presented.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
Reliability assessment of positioning for seismic acquisition and processing at sea
Vassilis Gikas,Paul Cross +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, a method for the rigorous assessment of reliability within an integrated navigation approach is described, which is tested with real multi-streamer positioning data and validated with real multiuser data.
Journal ArticleDOI
Testing and Evaluation of Wi-Fi RTT Ranging Technology for Personal Mobility Applications
Manos Orfanos,Harris Perakis,Vassilis Gikas,Guenther Retscher,Thanassis Mpimis,Ioanna Spyropoulou,Vasileia Papathanasopoulou +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper , a set of experimental tests was carried out, considering 1D and 2D space, operating different smartphone devices at various operational settings and observation conditions, and the obtained results indicate that Wi-Fi RTT is a promising technology capable of achieving a meter-level accuracy for ranges both in line of sight (LOS) and non-line-of-sight (NLOS) conditions, subject to suitable corrections identification and adaptation.
Journal ArticleDOI
A comparison between uwb and laser-based pedestrian tracking
Andrea Masiero,Paolo Dabove,Vincenzo Di Pietra,Marco Piragnolo,Antonio Vettore,Alberto Guarnieri,Cs. Toth,Vassilis Gikas,Harris Perakis,Kai-Wei Chiang,Laura Ruotsalainen,Salil Goel,Jelena Gabela +12 more
TL;DR: In this article , the potential of UWB and LiDAR for pedestrian positioning and tracking was investigated in an outdoor case study, nevertheless, both methods are usable indoors as well.
