Journal ArticleDOI
Comorbidities and risk of mortality in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Miguel Divo,Claudia Cote,Juan Pablo Torres,Ciro Casanova,Jose M. Marin,Victor Pinto-Plata,Javier J. Zulueta,Carlos Javier Gutiérrez Cabrera,Jorge Zagaceta,Gary M. Hunninghake +9 more
TL;DR: A simple disease-specific comorbidities index (COTE) helps assess mortality risk in patients with COPD and increases in the BODE and COTE were independently associated with increased risk of death.
Journal ArticleDOI
Lung-Function Trajectories Leading to Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
Peter Lange,Bartolome R. Celli,Alvar Agusti,Gorm B. Jensen,Miguel Divo,Rosa Faner,Stefano Guerra,Jacob Louis Marott,Fernando D. Martinez,Pablo Martínez-Camblor,Paula Meek,Caroline A. Owen,Hans Petersen,Victor Pinto-Plata,Peter Schnohr,Akshay Sood,Joan B. Soriano,Yohannes Tesfaigzi,Jørgen Vestbo +18 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that low FEV1 in early adulthood is important in the genesis of COPD and that accelerated decline inFEV1 is not an obligate feature of COPd.
Journal ArticleDOI
The 6‐min walk distance: change over time and value as a predictor of survival in severe COPD
TL;DR: The 6MWD independently predicted survival, after accounting for age, body mass index, FEV1 and comorbidities, in severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Inspiratory-to-Total Lung Capacity Ratio Predicts Mortality in Patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
Ciro Casanova,Claudia Cote,Juan P. de Torres,Armando Aguirre-Jaime,Jose M. Marin,Victor Pinto-Plata,Bartolome R. Celli +6 more
TL;DR: The power of lung hyperinflation as measured by the inspiratory capacity-to-total lung capacity ratio (IC/TLC) to predict mortality in a cohort of 689 patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease was analyzed and it was found to be a good and independent predictor of all-cause and respiratory mortality.
Journal ArticleDOI
The 6-min walk distance in healthy subjects: reference standards from seven countries
Ciro Casanova,Bartolome R. Celli,P. Barria,Alejandro Casas,Claudia Cote,J.P. de Torres,J. R. Jardim,MV Lopez,Jose M. Marin,M. Montes de Oca,Victor Pinto-Plata,Armando Aguirre-Jaime +11 more
TL;DR: New 6MWD standard curves are provided that could be useful in the care of adult patients with chronic diseases and caution must be taken when using existing predictive equations.
