Journal ArticleDOI

Engineering nanocellulose hydrogels for biomedical applications

TL;DR: A critically review of nanocellulose hydrogels for biomedical applications, finding that cellulose crosslinking to peptides and proteins enables a new generation of low cost and renewable smart materials used in diagnostics.
Journal ArticleDOI

Deep Eutectic Solvents for the Self-Assembly of Gold Nanoparticles: A SAXS, UV–Vis, and TEM Investigation

TL;DR: The formation and growth mechanisms of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) in eco-friendly deep eutectic solvents (DES) are reported and the results will pave the way to understand and control the self-assembly of metallic and bimetallic nanoparticles.
Journal ArticleDOI

Characterisation of hydrogels: Linking the nano to the microscale.

TL;DR: This review presents the main characterisation methods providing both qualitative and quantitative information of the structures and compositions of hydrogel, and aims at quantifying swelling, mechanical strength, mesh size, bound and free water content, pore structure, chemical composition, strength of chemical bonds and mechanical strength.
Journal ArticleDOI

One-shot TEMPO-periodate oxidation of native cellulose.

TL;DR: Results show that these regioselective oxidants work in synergy to produce fully-oxidised 2,3,6-tricarboxycellulose, a low-cost cellulose with controlled level of carboxylation and unique properties.
