Journal ArticleDOI
Selective oxidation with dioxygen by gold nanoparticle catalysts derived from 55-atom clusters
Mark Turner,Vladimir B. Golovko,Vladimir B. Golovko,Owain P. H. Vaughan,Pavel Abdulkin,Ángel Berenguer-Murcia,Mintcho S. Tikhov,Brian F. G. Johnson,Richard M. Lambert +8 more
TL;DR: The observations suggest that catalytic activity arises from the altered electronic structure intrinsic to small gold nanoparticles, and that the use of 55-atom gold clusters may prove a viable route to the synthesis of robust gold catalysts suited to practical application.
Journal ArticleDOI
Single‐Step Conversion of Dimethyl Terephthalate into Cyclohexanedimethanol with Ru5PtSn, a Trimetallic Nanoparticle Catalyst
Ana B. Hungría,Robert Raja,Richard D. Adams,Burjor Captain,John Meurig Thomas,Paul A. Midgley,Vladimir B. Golovko,Brian F. G. Johnson +7 more
Journal ArticleDOI
Engineered silver nanoparticles are sensed at the plasma membrane and dramatically modify the physiology of Arabidopsis thaliana plants.
Arifa Sosan,Dimitri A. Svistunenko,Darya Straltsova,Katsiaryna Tsiurkina,Igor Smolich,Tracy Lawson,Sunitha Subramaniam,Vladimir B. Golovko,David G. Anderson,Anatoliy Sokolik,Ian Colbeck,Vadim Demidchik,Vadim Demidchik +12 more
TL;DR: Light is shed on mechanisms of the impact of nanosilver on plant cells, and these include the induction of classical stress signalling reactions (mediated by [Ca(2+) ]cyt and ROS) and a specific effect on the plasma membrane conductance and the reduced ascorbate.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chemically synthesised atomically precise gold clusters deposited and activated on titania. Part II.
David G. Anderson,Jason F. Alvino,Alexander S. Gentleman,Hassan S. Al Qahtani,Lars Thomsen,Matthew I. J. Polson,Gregory F. Metha,Vladimir B. Golovko,Gunther G. Andersson +8 more
TL;DR: It is found that the pre-treatment plays a crucial role in the removal of ligands and agglomeration of the clusters and heating in oxygen, and subsequently in hydrogen, leads to further agglomership of the gold clusters.
Journal ArticleDOI
Highly efficient catalysts for the hydrogenation of nitro-substituted aromatics
Robert Raja,Vladimir B. Golovko,John Meurig Thomas,John Meurig Thomas,Ángel Berenguer-Murcia,Wuzong Zhou,Songhai Xie,Brian F. G. Johnson +7 more
TL;DR: Nanoparticles of Co and NiPd, derived from colloidal precursors and supported on commercially available non-ordered mesoporous silica, are highly effective, cheap, recyclable and industrially viable catalysts for the hydrogenation of a range of nitro-substituted aromatics under mild conditions.
